A government agency just released a report saying that distractions cause over 3/4's of all car accidents. Of course this is the same government agency that claims that over 40% of accidents are caused by alcohol, so it doesn't quite add up.

toots2000
i would probably say drinking and driving or more commonly the driver is distracted by something or someone. pure carelessness.

The number one reason for car accidents is inattention to driving!

"Inattention to driving is the number one cause of auto accidents in the U.S., according to experts. And drivers splitting their attention between driving and talking on cell phones are amongst the most inattentive, increasing their risk of accident four to five times more than average, according to experts."

"That idiot weaving in and out of traffic with no indication of lane changing, the moron adjusting his radio while driving (number 1 reason for accidents in the US), the genius on the cellphone while driving, the fool with his blinkers left on whether there is a lane to move to or not, and the people that think anything less than 5 blinker flashes is more than sufficient to indicate a lane change are the main causes for accidents."

"A study conducted by the California Highway Patrol found cell phone use is the number one reason for accidents"

"Daytime sleepiness is well established to be a key factor in impairing top performance and, on a more serious note, perhaps the number one reason for car accidents."

The number one cause of automobile accidents is the driver being distracted (cell phone, reading a map, talking to a passenger, lighting a cigarette ... it doesn't matter, they're all distractions).

I'm not one of those stupid people making sarcastic answers I'm serious when i say this i seriously think its stupid people or old people they drive way too cautiously and slowly and overreact when there is almost an accident and end up causing it anyway

I think it's all come down to unwareness of the surrounding environment and carelessness

Well, certainly being lazy or feeling drowzy will put ur interest off driving and may lead to the cause.

See answer #7. I've been an otr truck driver for over 10 years and I agree with him 100%. PLEASE pay attention to what is going on around you at all times and give yourself plenty of time to react(don't tailgate).
