They're all the same. Safety has to do with the driver, not the vehicle.

I would get her something descent but not to powerful to hotrod in. I also would stress wearing safety belts for her protection.

A bicycle! Seriously though, I would get the latest issue of Consumer Reports Guide to Cars, and check the safety ratings of cars in the size class and price range that you are interested in. Remember though, a car is only as safe as the person behind the wheel driving it, so I would impress upon her the responsibility that she now has since getting her license. Good luck!

a 1982 Chevy Cavelier. It's not the best car in the world in terms of running, but in terms of safety...it's basically a piece of sheet metal on wheels. It's also a relatively small car.

But since you probably won't find her one that still runs, honestly, I'd say a saturn. They have safety cages in the doors, good crunch zones, and I understand the new ones have side-airbags.
Plus, it's a small car, so she can see every corner of the car from the driver's seat :)
oh, also, since the side panels are all strong plastic, it's not a big deal if somebody runs a cart in the side or opens their side door into hers.
As for reliaiblity, mine just turned 10 years old, with over 159,000 miles, and it's still running excellent!

Any model old or recent as long as it is in top shape and especially safe!!!
Be with her to choose and buy. But before you sign, have the car thoroughly inspected by a mechanic that you really trust.
I've been a mechanic and body man in my young days and today a father of a daughter. This is exactly what I will do in the very near future.

Good Deeds
It depends how much you want to spend?

Make sure she abides by the rules of the road and common sense. No cell phone use while driving, drive defensively.

Honda Civic or Subaru Impreza both cars have great crash test ratings, reliable and dependable The Subaru is AWD and has better handling and it comes standard with 6 airbags and ABS. The way this car is with passive and active safety it is the best pick. And if is maintained properly it will last a long time. Stay away from Kia, Ford or Volvo, neither are dependable and will always be in the shop, unless its a Volvo 1999 or older. Check out this site and go for gold. Good Luck!

If you can afford it a late model Volvo.

Unparralelled safety record. It is how they made their mark in the Automobile industry. Late models are stylish unlikke the old box looking models

Small "girl" cars are not terribly safe in a crash. Best to avoid them. Late 1980s Mercedes-Benz are pretty safe and you can get a good one for not much money if you take your time looking. The E class are reasonable size and she'll be the only one her age with a Benz.

Before I buy a car (which my son would also drive), I always check out the ratings of the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. They are the independent organization that does the crash tests. I have used them for many years, and their test results and photos were a real eye-opener!

Though the reatings pertain to the newest cars, I have found that the better safety brands try hard to maintain their reputation, while the dogs tend to remain dogs throughtout the years.

You probably want the most dependable car for your daughter. A car that always brings her home or where she needs to be.

Not sure, if there is truly a SAFE car, if you talking about crash safe. I saw cars in accidents, I thought were 'safe', and were unrecognizable. It all depends on the impact and speed.

Better tell her to watch out for the other driver, lock her passenger's door, always make sure she has enough gasoline, have a cellphone, etc., if she driving alone.

There are plenty web sites out there for you to research safe/dependable cars for your girl.
