What should i do if someone broke into our car last night?

the problem is i dont know if they took anything or not . but the door was open alitle and everything in the dashboard was thrown everywhere in the car and everything was left amess.

The best thing to do is report it to the police. The reason why reporting it is a good idea is so they can keep an eye out for any further suspicious activity. By telling them that you believe there was a car broken into they will be aware and they will likely dispatch an officer in your area to keep an eye out. Usually if there was a break in once its not exactly an isolated incident. They will try to do it again even if they don't do it to your vehicle. Calling the police alerts them to the situation. Besides if you call them and they dispatch a police officer to your area then chances are another break in will be foiled or discouraged because of police presence. Also make sure to call your insurance agent and see if they cover those kinds of damages.

Definitely call the police to alert them to this crime in the area. There may be others in your neighborhood this happened to and they will get more cruisers there if people report this. Also, ask them to look over the car to see what they may have broken if you can do this. You might say something like "In your vast experience, what do people damage when they break into a car?" Maybe they can point out some things you didn't see and then you can report it on your insurance.

Call your insurance company if your car was damaged. You said it was "broke" into. What did they break? They will have to send an assessor out or you will have to take it in to get cost of damages.

If it was real bad or something stolen I don't know if they may have gotten fingerprints or not, but might be a good idea to call the police first thing and not touch a bunch of stuff or use gloves until they come.

You should report the break in to the police and your insurance company just to be safe and sure. That should have been the first thing you did when you noticed the door was open.
