What should you do after a car crash?

The first thing to do at the crash site is to determine the extent of driver and passenger injuries. If the accident is a fender bender, emergency medical care might not be necessary. However, when in doubt, call an ambulance.

If your first phone call was to emergency care providers, your second call should be to the police. The police will advise you whether it's required to move the crashed vehicles from moving traffic, and an investigating officer will take statements of the drivers and passengers involved.

Even if the facts of the accident are embarrassing or detrimental to you, tell the truth. If you alter your story later or you don't disclose pertinent facts, the insurance companies involved will find out. That could come back to haunt you; the insurer can deny coverage or shift more fault to you.

You should always call 911 first. You need to get a police report, especially because when you do contact your insurance company not only are they going to need this info and its one of the first things they ask for... but if you don't get it there really is no proof of anything. The other person may be 100% at fault but they can whip up a whole batch of lies to tell the insurance co and it will just be your word against theirs without the police report.
After calling 911 you should exchange insurance info. I wouldn't worry about pictures, the insurance co will usually send someone out to assess your car and take pictures, etc.

If it is not serious, get to a safe area & just exchange insurance info and move on...If there is someone hurt, you need to call 911 and wait for the cops. They will take both parties side of the story and witnesses if any, and get the insurance info for each party involved. He will give you a report number so you can go get a copy of that report. Meanwhile, you call your insurance company and tell them you have been in an accident, they will ask if you want to file a claim. say no until you get a copy of the report to see who they say is at fault, Go from there. If its a serious crash your supposed to stay in the car. If its a fender bender, you want to make sure your ok, call 911, and than get out and take pictures of everything for your insurance companys. A lot of insurance companys give you a little kit now with a camera and what not in it.
