Up here in the north lands it gets pretty cold in the winter, I always keep a blanket and a coffee can with a candle in it in case I break down. You would be surpised at how warm you can stay with that candle in a can on your lap! |

I always carry a heavy blanket. It has come in handy for accident victims waiting for the ambulance, and in case of me or someone else breaking down in the winter and needing to stay warm. I do not carry a first aid kit, but I should and have been trained to provide first aid using my shirt and other clothing for splints and bandages and other emergency situations. Carry a cell phone. |

depends where you are driving most roads are so heavily traveled and monitored that there is really no need to carry much of anything unless you live somewhere quite rural |

An auto escape tool is probably one of the most important items that you can keep in your car. This small little tool comes in a variety of styles with a selection of features. The most important features that these tools usually include is the ability to cut through seatbelts and to break side windows. Some auto escape tools can glow in the dark, have a blinking LED light to alert someone to help you, or can have a needle that can pop the air bag. Having this small item in your car could mean the difference between life and death should you be caught in a horrible situation.
Instant cold compresses are good to keep in a car. The compress works by squeezing it to activate it and it will stay cold for usually around 30 minutes. This item is great for minor injuries and swelling. Keeping this in your car will be handy should you get a minor burn on your hand from your hot coffee or sprain your ankle and can't make it right away to get a bag of ice. Not only will it temporarily help with the pain, but it might help the injury from getting worse for the long term. The instant cold compresses come in a variety of sizes and prices.
An extra disposable cell phone battery is incredibly handy to carry in your car. Should your phone battery die in an emergency and you have no way to charge your phone, this will give you extra battery time. Make sure to get the one that is compatible with your type of phone.
A few bottles of water and some crackers may seem simple and trivial, but should you be stuck in an emergency there's no telling how long you might be stuck in that position. Keeping hydrated and having some type of food will come in handy and will have you keep your energy up.
No one ever wants to think about the worst happening, nevertheless anything bad happening to them. However, should an emergency arise, it is better to be prepared then not. |
