Eating, applying makeup, reading a book, reading the newspaper, reading a map, talking on a cell phone. fiddling with the radio, looking over your shoulder at the kids in the back seat: all of these are distractions that cause most of the accidents on our roads. These and other distractions are the major cause of running a red light. Yes running a red light is one of the most dangerous traffic violations just behind drunk driving. But the distractions are the cause of most violations. |

Driving under the influence! |

when you knew all cars stop when the red light is on, yes that is the dangerous road to the death.
also when people try to pass the railroad when it said stop but the car still going crossing the railroad with out stop.
that two thing is most dangerous in America today.
the way i see. |

I agree with you , but I think DUI is worse. Under the influence of anything illegal or drunk, both can kill or injure innocent people just like running a stop sign or traffic light. Sad part, people who already have DUI's keep repeating the offense. I think that law needs some serious adjustment. Peace n Smiles! |

I think people pulling out in front of me from the medians while I'm driving down the hwy at 65 mph. is terrible. I've had this happen twice in the last 6 years, and been very lucky both times. We have alot of accidents on Hwy 45 in Tupelo, MS from people doing this, and some die. The DOT has put up lights and now even considering putting a bridge over one road. Will they do it? Who knows. |

I agree, running red lights is worst, but following too closely (tailgating) is really bad too. |

Every one of the answers here is pertinent to the question...They all have one thing in common - they all involve the driver...Specifically, the mental aspects of attitude, focus and discipline...The only time a vehicle is "safe" is when it is unoccupied and the engine is turned off...When someone is behind the wheel, all bets are off and the potential for life-threatening danger starts to climb...Operating a motor vehicle is 100% mental...And because it is so damnably easy, it is just as easy to become lackadaisical and bored...We see how fast a car can go on the track and those car stunts on the screen are so cool...Heck, if they can do it, so can I - monkey see, monkey do...It all comes down to me - the driver and how important I think operating a motor vehicle really is. |

Yeah, running a red light is the most dangerous depending on when you do it (It's pretty safe at 4AM)
Failure to yield to a pedestrian or bicycle is up there too. We have had 4 fatal bike accidents in my city so far this year.
Another would be "driving the wrong way"
I think that's even more dangerous than the stop light. |
