Basically you need to demonstrate you can drive and operate the forklift safely. This means being aware of your surroundings...as well as the limits of the machine.
Safe Working Limit will no doubt crop up at some point...you should be able to work out if a load can be moved safely with the forklift you are using with regards to the length of the forks and the distance under the load they can reach as well as the size, shape and weight of the load.
It's basically about safety...to prove you aren't going to be taking risks and putting yourself and others at danger while operating the forklift.
Normally they don't want you to use side-shift controls and like you to use the handbrake while lifting or lowering the forks...and don't move about with the forks in mid-air or you've basically failed. |

1. Inspect the fork lift for damage...
2. Make sure it's fully charged if electrical, or the natural gas tank is full.
3. Buckle up, ware safety glasses, hard hat if required, and adjust rear view mirrors.
4. make sure to inspect pallet that you will be transporting for loose objects and damaged boards...
5. Look all ways before approaching pallet to be moved.
6. Sound horn when workers are present.
7. Make sure there is no damage or obstacles present on platform or area where pallet is to be stored.
8. Follow all safety procedures required by company...
9. Good luck |

Drive , pick up and move containers/pallets, stack and get loads down. Be very precise, not hit any thing but most of all look were you are going and check the load, don't reverse with out looking backwards, watch the swing of the forks. Normally have a course already laid out with just the right amount of clearance and a set routine for moving the pallets. Done mine but was a bit slow, there is also a time limit. |

One of the tests - is to drive a set course with an EGG balanced on the forks - you fail if you drop the egg !! |

Your company can certify you, you do not need to go to an outside body. There are a few places that provide the training materials for forklift certification.
