I think they make the same mistakes more seasoned drivers do, but they make them more often.
#1 Distractions in the car. Other occupants, fiddling with the audio controls, attempting to retrieve something from a compartment or from the floor when the car is in motion, cellphones and food.
#2 Speed/traction/braking misjudgment. This includes underestimating the slickness of roads in varying conditions, taking corners too fast and believing that SUVs are proof against sliding in snowy/icy conditions.
#3 Failure to allow enough distance when merging, changing lanes, or checking blind spots. |

not watching where they are going and speeding and thats pretty much same with older drivers as well |

young people believe that they better than they actually are. I assume that you are talking about driving test? If so then the most common mistake would be not using your rear view mirrors often enough so if that's what your on about use your mirrors and you will be alright |

Loosing control due to speeding and inexperience. We lost at least 4 or 5 teens in our area in the last few months due to this. |

anti-social driving, loud exhaust and blasting crap music, shouting abuse at passers cos they're too weak scared 2 say it 2 their face, reving at speed when theres a red light/end of road etc 100 yards ahead, thinkin they're so hard.
Thinking their hardcore cars can do 150+mph when they cant even do over 80 |

My brother in law is a traffic cop and says by far it's losing control through excess speed (misjudging a bend) misjudging the cars capabilities etc. I guess in a nutshell it would be any accident they caused through inexperience and that's why insurance companies thrash them! |

Thinking they are more capable than they really are resulting in going too fast, braking too late and dying too soon.
You think you are brilliant having passed THE TEST when actually you start to learn to drive from that point on and may not be too good at it for a while - problem is a lot of under 25s think they are good and everyone knows that all teenagers know everthing. |

MISTAKES ?
inattentive
failure to realize their limitations
failure to realize the limitations of their machinery
thinking they are invulnerable
over confidant
bullying - road raging
failure to obey the traffic laws
failure to learn from their mistakes
substance abuse
failure to respect other drivers rights
................................. shall I go on. I can do this all day! My intention is not to demean teenage driver as most of the above can be attributed to simple lack of experience. The majority of teenage drivers that I am familiar with are actually not bad drivers ( they just aren't good drivers yet). It's only a small minority of them that cause the major problems. And if we as a society stiffened up the requirements we could weed out the truly bad ones in the driving schools. |
