When I have to drive a truck at night time, what do I do if I keep falling asleep?

Always get good sleep before a long drive, whether during the day or at night. Stop every couple of hours and take a break, have a drink and something to eat, and a short walk to get the blood pumping around your body again. Don't drive for longer than you can keep alert! If you start feeling sleepy, it's time to pull over and take a nap for a little while(30-45 mins). I have problems trying to drive for long distances uninterrupted, the most I can make without a break is about 3.5 hours. If I do what I just wrote above however, I can drive for 18 hours without needing to sleep for a big block of hours in a bed.

If you're sleepy, you shouldn't be driving. Getting good sleep before you drive is the only safe thing to do.

Don't drive. I was hit by a Drunk Driver who fell asleep at night and they totaled my new car. I filed a lawsuit though because it was her 5th DUI in 8 Months.

I used to drive trucks at night too. After FIVE close calls, it finally sunk in -- get my sleep during the day NO MATTER WHAT. Coming south on I-95 in CT, I dozed off behind the wheel of a 33 ft tandem axle and cut across two lanes of traffic before waking up and yanking the wheel to the left to avoid the wall. The rear-most outer tire hit the flare at the bottom of the "K" rail and the a** of the truck scraped the wall. Thank God I didn't hit anybody... I can't tell you how long I was asleep behind the wheel, but a second is all it takes.

After I calmed down about 45 minutes later, I promised myself that I would never drive short on sleep, and that if I did find myself getting drowsy behind the wheel I would just stop and grab a snooze (which annoyed the ex-wife to no end, lol).

Those energy pills and drinks work, but will only work for so long. Do not put your faith in them, they are not meant to be used constantly, use them once in a while. I don't know about tolerances building up with excessive use, but I do know that if you deprive your body of sleep, it WILL get it's rest, probably when you least expect it.

Do yourself and the people you share the road with a favor, get enough sleep.

You can not drive with the in side lights on. Make sure you get plenty off sleep on your off hours. Do not eat a big heavy meal before driving.

Getting sleep beforehand is the only safe way to do it and stopping and sleeping when tired is the only safe thing to do. BUT here in the real world there are several types of stimulants to increase allertness.

Everything from Vivran, Ephedrine to 5 hour energy.

But, just as with money, you can go into debt with it. If you donâ€™t sleep enough, you â€œoweâ€ more sleep to yourself.

This debt can only be paid off by sleeping. You canâ€™t overcome it with willpower, and it wonâ€™t go away by itself.

The average person needs seven or eight hours of sleep every 24 hours.

Leaving on a long trip when you're already tired is dangerous. If you have a long trip scheduled, make sure that you get enough sleep before you go.

I do bored achier spraying this involves long hours and all night driving off road some times 70 hrs straight.Tip,s
1 get at least 5hrs sleep before a all night drive
2 stop for half an hour at dusk and dawn(most accidents happen hear)
3 you will fell tired at times you would normally go to sleep 10pm 1am or at times off deep sleep 3-4.30am have a drink or other sugar source 1-1.5hrs befour these times.
4 ALWAYS STOP IF YOU CAN NOT KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN!!! beater to arrive late than not at all.

buy a cell phone and turn the light on in the truck theres no law that says it has to be off
