When I should use OVER DRIVE & when not to.?

if i drive 80% of the time on city streets, should i engage OVER DRIVE or not?

Your car won't shift into overdrive until it reaches a certain speed anyway. So you can leave it in overdrive as long as you want. You aren't going to hurt anything. About the only time you don't use overdrive is when you pull a trailer. Or if your driving through the mountains.

Leave it in OD.

The transmission will shift into the proper gear for the speed you are traveling. The are very few times you should select "Drive".

One is, if you are traveling up a steep incline at or highway speed and transmission is searching for gears (jumping between D and OD).

Another is to regulate your descent on the other side of the steep incline. A third, is to help maintain traction in snow, and a fourth is to reduce load on the engine when towing.

If you are driving over 45mph consistantly, use OD. And always use OD on the freeway / interstate.
