PLEASE READ! My step-dad uses a seatbelt clip so the seatbelt is not too tight on him. It fits just right to his body size. When my mom gets in the car there is a lot of slack in the seatbelt when the clip is in place. I always take it off because I feel its dangerous and I want NO SLACK in the seatbelt. When compared to when my step-dad sits in it my mom has at least 6 inches of slack when the belt is pulled taught. I am being a little generous about the slack. I believe its more than 6 inches. 3 days ago my mom and I got into a car accident with our truck a Ford Explorer. We hit a larger truck, the size of a Ford F-150. The seat belt clip was in place and there was a lot of slack in the drivers seat where she was sitting. I had my seatbelt on without a clip and the belt was against my skin how its supposed to be. My mom hit her head on the windshield (she didn't get cut and she wasnt hurt but it did hit the windshield.) My question, to which I already know the answer, is did all that slack in the seatbelt, caused by the clip in place, cause the seatbelt to not function correctly and cause her to be jolted far enough for her head to hit the windshield? I argue it is dangerous when either myself or my mom gets into the car with the clip on because there is that slack in the seatbelt and it is not taught on your skin like how it is supposed to be. My step-dad says it is not dangerous with that slack when my mom or I or any smaller person drives. So I would love each and every persons opinion on this and also where they got their information. Is the 5-6 inches of slack in the seatbelt dangerous to my mom? Do you think her head would have hit the windshield if the clip was not on and the seatbelt taught against her skin? Please feel free to write in as much detail your opinion on this matter.
