As long as you slow down and proceed with caution, you will be ok. There is no set speed limit on passing an emergency vehicle, but you should be prepared to stop if neccessary. |

In Ontario, the Highway Traffic Act treats "emergency vehicles" very seriously. In fact, all the fines double if you violate the rules of the road in or around a "Construction Site" in or around a "Emergency Vehicle" or a "Community Safety Zone". If for instance, you are approaching an "emergency vehicle" on the side of the road, you are suppose to slow down and move into the other lane to give the emergency vehicle safe distance. Failing this, you will receive a ticket, under section 159.1 (2) of the Highway Traffic Act and will accumulate 3 demerit points and the fine will be doubled. Approach with caution. you must move to the next lane. example if its on the right on the shoulder, you are to move to the centre lane, they need an extra lane (right lane) on the highway to be safe. if this is on the street, approach slowly try to change lanes if possible. |
