When approaching a roundabout and the first exit is straight ahead, do i need to signal left on approach?

Good question. As a UK truck driver I have lost count at the number of times I have been held up on roundabouts by drivers who fail to signal their INTENTIONS. I cannot level this at any specific groups, (but they are usually females on the school run, or BMW drivers who are digitally disabled - can't use the indicator stalk cos their fingers have fell off) as all are guilty of this inconsiderate action. It has got to the stage of me dubbing them either 'Una Stubbs' or 'Lionel Blair' - a case of "Give Us A Clue!" So as a courtesy to other road users I would say signal before any manouvre- at least YOU know what you want to do.

Hi, I am a driving instructor and can help you. Unless you are approaching a mini roundabout you must signal left on approach to a roundabout if the first exit is straight ahead. This is referred to as first exit left.

Hi, You now have to indicate when exiting roundabouts. Indicate just before you exit.

Hi im a senior driving examiner and if the exit is directly ahead then there is no need to signal on approach but you still should be signalling to exit to inform other road users or pedestrians where you intend to go

if you don't tell them where you are going some one will cut you up. If in doubts indicate

as it says in the highway code "always signal if it is helpful to other road users or if it would be dangerous not to do so ". In this instance I probably would`nt bother , maybe i`m a sloppy driver.

yeah you will have to signal because you would have to tell the other drivers what you are going to do
