When changing lanes, can i look over my left shoulder instead of my right?
|
i'm taking my driver's test today and when i back up or change lanes i'm used to looking behind me from the left side because i am short and the back seats are kind of high and i can't see well through the middle of the seat. does it matter which way i look? will i be marked down if i look over my left shoulder instead of my right?

when you change lanes, you should look over the shoulder of the side you will be moving too. if you're moving into the right lane, look over your right shoulder. if you're moving into the left lane, look over your left shoulder.
being that you are short, you wouldn't accurately be able to see to the right if you're looking over your left shoulder. you won't be able to see anything in your blind spot. |

For your test, if you're indicating to your nearside, you should look over your nearside shoulder, if you're indicating to your offside, you should look over your offside shoulder. After your test, do whichever is more comfortable, as long as you can see your blind spot. |

Honestly they need to allow you to use your mirrors, that's what they're for. It's dangerous to look over your shoulders cos that takes your eyes off the road in front of you. Look in the two side mirrors and you still have some forward vision.
If I took a class C test today I'd drive them nuts cos I use my mirrors; being a bus driver, I rely on them in the car and the bus. |

Haha, you'd best not look over your left shoulder if you're going from the left to right lane. The whole point of looking over your shoulder is to see if anyone is in your blind spot. Looking the wrong way won't help that, and you'll probably fail.
My advice? Get a phone book to sit on. |

Also use your mirrors. |

The recommended method for backing up is to turn your head and look over your right shoulder because that places you vision on the middle of your vehicle.
You should raise yourself high enough in the seat to be able to clearly see over your right shoulder while backing.
Using any other method than the one recommended may be the cause of being disqualified of marked down on your test.
Good luck and I am sure you will have no trouble passing your driver's test. |

it's better to be a defensive driver at all times. learn to look on both ways. but you must also master the use of your side and rear mirrors so as to avoid removing your field of vision from the front. a split second disregard of your front vision will prove detrimental to you and other motorists. and about your height. choose the vehicle that has high seats or place a pillow underneath your seat to improve your position. an automatic transmission would be better |
