When should you turn on your blinker? distance wise.?

I've heard of people getting points off on their drivers tests when they turn their blinkers/signal on too early. When is the right time? distance wise.

u should turn it on about 3-4 seconds before you reach the turn
which is easier for me to remember than distance wise bcasue sometimes you can misjudge the distance and get it on too early or too late
either of those is no good but the earlier the better (providing there are no turns, streets or houses, that u pass with your blinker on)
apparently around 100 feet if u reli want distance wise
hope it helps and good luck with ur test |

You are supposed to turn your blinker on 100 feet before the turn. |

100 ft before th turn in city ,but if you turn is after an intersection you must signal when crossing the intersection. |

In California, the minimum time for the signal is 100 ft or five seconds before the turn.
There are exceptions, such as when about to enter a driveway just beyond the intersection. I such a situation, the signal shoud wait until just AFTER entering the intersection, and, BEFORE turning into the driveway.
As far as signaling too soon: You certainly do not want to cause confusion. The purpose of the signal is so that you don't catch other drivers and pedestrians by surprise. Signaling much too early could cause confusion in other drivers who won't have any idea what you really intend to do. A signal that has been blinking ten, fifteen seconds or more is of no help because driver behind will have no idea WHAT you intend to do. While the driver behind have the legal obligation to keep a safe following distance, YOU have the obligation to keep the traffic lane clear and moving until your signal indicates that you are going to make a manuver that may cause you to slow down and temproarily block a lane. |

If you are traveling the speed limit or slower, turn on your signal about 150 to 200 feet before your turn. |
