In the US, the first vehicle has the right of way. If both cars arrive simultaneously, the car turning must yield to oncoming traffic.
It's not that hard. The trick is in determining who got there first. This is especially hard if one or the other vehicle does not come to a complete stop, or, doesn't stop until AFTER it has entered the intersection.
That's why I advise my students that, when in doubt, go ahead and yield. It's not a race. |

if you both arrive at the same time, i would let the person going straight go first.
...when I was learning to fly a plane and had similar questions, my instructor would say "better to be wrong, than dead right."
(In other words, sometimes you have to let the other person go first, even though you have the right-of-way, than to get into a bad situation) |
