Where do you stop at a stop sign?

Is it at the sidewalk/crosswalk and then the curb?

Mostly at the sign itself, at the intersection so you can look all ways. Then proceed. The sign itself, will tell you, if there is a white line it tells you to stop at the line. If it's a two way, it will say that as well.

It's interesting that you should ask this particular question, as it is one of my pet peeves. Where I live (Northeast) people don't obey the stop signs. I watch folks ignore them on a daily basis. If I did it, I'd be the one getting a ticket but that's not why it ticks me off, it's the principal, people have their kids in the car and they run a stop sign, what is that telling the kids? They grow up and do the same thing. Just venting.
Hope I helped.

Behind the sign, wherever it is. That is the only place you should be stopping.

Before the crosswalk. Then, just go. . . if you stop again, someone might get confused. (Unless you're stopping because you can't see around something or there's a person running in front of you!)

Most stop signs have a white line where your front wheels should be when you stop. The best answer would be wherever you aren't in the intersecting street but have enough visibility to know if it is safe to continue.

Before the crosswalk or stop line. Not that anyone does that, but that's what the dmv handbook says.

Stop "behind" the sign. In other words, the front of your car should be even with the sign itself. Then, if necessary, roll forward to view oncoming traffic, etc.

You stop at the line and then creep up if needed.

Before the sign. My hubbie gets in trouble alot for stopping just past the sign.

There should be a painted white stop bar on the street. You've got to clear the crosswalk, and you should be adequately far back so that someone turning from your right infront of you to go down the street you came up doesn't hit you.

Yes, if there is a crosswalk, always stop before that. If there is a stop line, then obviously stop at that. If there are neither then stop with your front bumper before the actual stop sign.

You're supposed to stop before the crosswalk, look for pedestrians, then creep up to the stop sign, make a complete stop, look for oncoming vehicles and if it's clear then go whatever way you're heading.

LittleBarb
Depends on where the stop sign is.....if you come to a 4 corner ALL STOP section, or ANY road that has a stop sign and NO PEDESTRIAN walking area, you would pull up as far as you need to to SEE in all directions.... Same thing holds true for a ANY stop sign ----I've seen som where there are SHRUBS obstructing views and if you DON'T pull a LITTLE ahead of the stop sign, you will NEVER see what's coming or not. At a PEDESTRIAN crossing area, you MUST stop before the first perpendicular line of the cross walk leaving the entire cross walk area for anyone who might be trying to cross the road.

when you stop at a stop sigh you should stop at least a few feet away from the road like maybe 3 feel but make sure you can see both ways if not scoot up a little bit

Before the white line.
