Which car is safer?????

I am about to get my license in a year or so and i need to know whether it would be safer for me to drive a stickshift 1991 Ford Ranger or a automatic 2001 Honda Accord. Keep in mind that im still kind of new to driving even though i have been driving for a while now.

The Accord wins, hands down. The Ranger is much more prone to roll over as are all pickups and SUVs. There were no rollover standards in 1991.
Also, you'll be tempted to carry friends in the back of the Ranger. That's illegal in a few states but regardless of legality it is the most dangerous place anyone could possibly travel. They have absolutely no protection in case of an accident and can even be thrown from the truck if you swerve to avoid an accident.
In the Accord, there is a seatbelt for every passenger, better handling and accident avoidance capability and a much better accident survival record. |

If you're are not very experienced driver, I would recommend driving an automatic small car, so out of the two, Honda Accord.
As far as safety goes, you can determine that by checking to see if they have airbags(how many and where), ABS (anti-locking brakes), braking distance at 60 mph (wich you can find online) , and stuff like that.
However, if you're a guy like me,(take on the hardest thing so you can drive anything after you drove it) then I'd go with the stick and a the bigger the better. Plus, a pick-up is very handy (you can haul a lot of stuff).
Cheers! |

Go with the Honda Accord (even though it is an import) it is an AT and much easier to handle than a MT. |

The Accord is FAR safer than a pickup truck. Go with the Honda. |

Wait until you become more familar with the rules and ettique of the road. Then you can learn the manual. Besides, the Honda will last you longer. Enjoy. Just tell me you don't live around me. I love to scare young drivers and their teachers. |
