Which country has the worst drivers, and why?

If I had to choose in the U.S. it would definitely be New York. I will walk 100 blocks than get into a taxi! Overseas, I would say Turkey. I had some pretty frightening taxi rides over there as well. One time I got kicked off of a bus for laughing with my friends. We were far from the Air Force base and had to walk. We stuck out like sore thumbs in our jeans, tees and sneakers.

I used to think It was France.
The answer today is without ANY DOUBT India.
You don't even need a license to "drive"there.
I recently watched film of a 4 year old...
Yes I said a 4 year old piloting a mini-van through the most
insane traffic in New Deli with his dad sitting next to him...
praising his skills.
This kid is 4 (four) years old... with extensions on his "shoes" for the gas and brake..
Yeah, he weaved a bit here and there, but I can hardly blame him as he is confronted with very crowded intersections filled with other vehicles, ox carts, bicycles, mopeds, pedestrians, animals of all kinds... and nearly no traffic lights.
Yet this child was paying such close attention to everything...
using his turn signals, coming to smooth stops, looking both ways...
You think you, we, me have it bad?
Hell this "child" never reached for, or talked on "his" cell phone!!

But yeah, the answer used to be France.
#1 now belongs to India.
Except for this child.
OMG, only 4 years old.

They play a lot of bumper car in Indonesia (Jakarta). You want be be real careful in crossing any street in Thailand also.

Brazil. NO speed limits, NO traffic lights or signs, most roads are dirt, and apparently they don't know where the breaks are. i spent the ride from the airport to our hotel in the FLOOR BOARD hyperventilating and mumbling to myself in an incoherent manner...make it stop, make it stop!

So far, Egypt. No semaphores in Cairo! It seems that there are no laws, they have the principle of who is more skillful. However, they are not the worst drivers, but their traffic is wild. You need to pray before crossing the street.

In the philippines. Most of the jeepney driver are rickless driver. some of the car drivers too! They think they own the roads.

Mexico cause when they come into the USA, they don't pay attention to USA laws regarding insurance, right of way, signaling, caution on yellow, etc, etc.

I really think we should judge which country has the worst drives, not by personal experience but by statistics of deaths can by road accidents. Although the Philippines has abad reputation as being the worlds worst drives their road accident deaths is quite small. This is mainly becaue the average speed is quite low. The traffic and roads will not allow for really high speed. Whereas the UK and USA have a very high death rate mainly caused by high speed accidents and not practicing defensive driving. Although I am 75 I drive in the philippines evey day both city and rural and feel more safe that I did in some other countries. I just have to remember this EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY be extremely defensive and use your horn a lot
