Which do you prefer? High Beam Button located on turn signal or the "old fashion " way located on the floor?

yeah called me an old fart....I liked it better when the button was located on the floor. You had to use your left foot to press on a floor button to turn them on or off. This way seems safer becuase you didn't have to take your hand off the steering wheel. plus you gave your leg or foot something to do.

I liked them on the floor. I rarely if ever drive with two hands on the wheel so it's just a lot faster to tap my foot then to move my left hand from wherever it is to the stalk. |

My problem with the new controls is that there are so many functions on the lever that I sometimes accidentally do the wrong thing like flip the headlights when I'm trying to start the turn signal. Also there's no uniformity to the design. Some cars you push forward for high beam. Others you pull back.
And if one thing goes wrong you have to replace the whole lever which, with all its functions, is expensive.
That said, I don't miss the floor button all that much especially in my manual transmission car. My feet have enough to do with the clutch, break, and gas pedals. If I'm busy breaking (break, clutch) and a car comes into view I've run out of feet to dim my lights. :-)
Too bad those automatic electric-eye light dimmers didn't work out. |

I prefer the button on floor although it did not allow you to flash your lights. The problem I have with some cars which have a click system is that if you flash your lights during daylight, you have no way of knowing if,when you switch on your headlights, they will come on dipped or full beam.I suppose now I think about it, you didn't know with the floor button either!I think maybe the best system is the one where you have to move the stalk to a seperate position for full or dipped beam. |

I like the floor buttons best for an automatic transmission. But for a standard, I like the hand switch.
When driving secondary roads which are winding & hilly. there are times when you are down shifting to slow down for a sharp turn, then you meet another car.
Your foot is on the clutch, but you need to dim your lights.
Thats when the hand switch is handy. |

I don't use the high beams too often. However, I do like the new locations on the steering column. That is just my opinion, but since you asked. |

I hated the old ones and love the column mounted ones. It was always a pain trying to shift gears and find the button at the same time while working the clutch. I've never had to remove my hand from the wheel to reach the turn-signal lever, either to flip the beams or use the turn signals. My hands are average size but I guess I could see how someone with unusually small hands might have trouble with it, especially with a poorly designed one like GM used to use; those were the pits. |

In a big truck I like it on the floor, but in a four-wheeler I like it on the turn signal... - john (rock Island, Il) |

Never even heard of cars haveing the main/dipped beam switch on the floor, they've always had them on the steering column in Britain.
Anyway, what happens when you need to dip your lights when you've got your foot on the clutch? |
