Which has the right of way? U-turn or right turn?
|
Consider this Scenario.
There's a car going from east to west. There's a car going from south to north. They are at an intersection. The car going from east to west is trying to make a u-turn. The car going from south to north is trying to make a right turn.
There's no traffic light. It is permitted to make a u-turn.
Who has the right of way?

Good question O.o
I think I'd have to say that the car making the right turn has the right of way. I don't think that driver has to look out for people making u-turns and that the driver making the u-turn has to look out for people making the right turns. |

The car making the right turn has the right of way. |

the one who arrives at the intersection first ,if they arrive at the same time the one on the right, but I think they'll miss each other anyway |

the person making the right turn has the right of way if both vehicles arrive at the intersection at the same time, in most states if you are making a left turn or a u turn you are crossing oncoming traffic so you never have the right of way unless it is a four way intersection with a green arrow for left turns in this case the person making a u-turn or left has the right of way, if two vehicles meet at an intersection one going north making a right and one going south making a left the vehicle making the right has the right of way |

A driver making a u-turn at any permitted intersection NEVER has the right of way....
and the driver making the u-turn must obey all traffic control signs at that intersection.
A driver may make a u-turn at any intersection without a traffic signal or prohibitive sign, but may not make a u-turn between intersections. That is illegal and subject to a fine. |

U turns are generally illegal--especailly in an intersection. No one can just turn into a lane from where they are--you have to signal and wait for it to be clear. if you hit a car in another lane or in the opposite direction--you are wrong--you violated their space. What matters is NOT having the accident--so good judgement and courtesy will rule here. demanding the right of way or charging through thinking others will heed to you is a fatal assumption--and you are equally at fault as the court sees it. If someone has decided to make an illegal--move--stay away and let them do it. It is not a good idea to be near them when they make this illegal move. U turns are not permitted--U turns jeapordize people sharing the road--you are required to reverse direction by going around the block or finding a safe way to turn around. |

right turn has the right of way
the U turn is technically a left turn.
unless you turning right after stopping for a red light.
if they have no lights for either driver right turn = right of way
of course you should never get in a wreck just because you have the right of way |

The car going from south to north executing a right turn has the right of way. A u-turner (especially an illegal u-turn) is always secondary to a car going right, like in this situation. |

Neither. However, the one making the U-turn should recognize that they are attempting the more unordinary manuveur, that the other vehicle may interpret that they are turning left past their path, and make sure the way is safe first by letting the other car go first.
Again, the rule is........ always act as if you are the only one with a clue, and the responsibility is solely yours. |

The driver that is making the U-Turn would not have the right of way because that driver would have to make sure that both sides of the roads are clear for oncoming traffic.............................. |

in AZ the vehicle making the right turn should yield the right of way to the vehicle making the u-turn. the vehicle making the u-turn is already on the road and therefore the car entering the road (making a right turn) should yield to all vehicles already on the road. |
