Which is the better option for safety, drive around or run over a road kill?

My office is located on a private narrow road. Apparently, one of my associates accidentally hit a huge possum and it is in the middle of the lane. The Department of Transportation / Road Work won’t handle it because is on a private road.

From a legal view, the duty to maintain and repair a private road is arranged on the individuals whose benefit from the road is created. However, it’s also illegal to dispose of road kills without a proper permit. To avoid liability, it is best to leave it there.

However, since it is in the middle of a narrow path, to avoid running over it, I will have to drive off the road to get around it and is often muddy. For safety, is it better to run over it on a daily basis?

If that roadkill is a human then you should probably avoid running over it.

There are two ways that you could deal with it.

You would have to make sure that the animal is FULLY dead. Sometimes animals who are partially dead or very injured, tend to be very dangerous. If this is the case, then you will HAVE to get the department or the conservation department to come and get it.

The only time that you would be able to get the animal and move it, is if it is FULLY dead then move the animal, but if you do, make sure that you have gloves or something like that, as they can carry a lot of bacteria too.

Run over it a couple times and the vultures or 'coons or wild pigs will smell it and clean up the mess for you. Or tell your associate to move it to the side of the road and leave it there without disposing it.

like everyone else said just move it over to the side of the road that would not be disposing of it and no one would accuse you of "moving road kill" you know how stupid that would sound in court?

First stop your car, not forgetting to put hazard lights on,get out and pick up or drag poor creature to side of road, put under
the hedge and leave it for nature to take its natural course
knowing that you have done your best for the natural order
of things.

It's going to get very smelly. Throw it to the side of the road as far away as possible, where the wildlife can find it. I remember one place where a fox got run over by some roadworks, in summer. You'd have to sit in the traffic for ages to get past this thing, worse still because I rode a motorbike so closing the windows was not an option. As it was a very busy road it eventually 'disappeared' but it still took a few weeks. Yuck.

...sooner or later if you drive over it,you'll slip...me,personally ide just kick it to the side of the road...that's ot classed as disposing it so it wont be against any regs...
