On the right side of the street, turn your steering wheel to the left. If you are parking on the left side of the street (one-way street) you turn your steering wheel to the right.

The easy way to remember is to think about which direction the parked vehicle would roll if you let off the brake. You want the vehicle to roll into the curb and stop, not out into the street. So, for your example, parking up a hill, you would turn the wheel to the left if parked on the right side, and to the right if on the left side. If parked going down a hill, you would do the opposite for each side.

Always turn the wheel all the way in the direction of the curb, which ever side of the street it is.

This is to prevent a runaway down the street should the brakes fail.

Oh, and always set the parking break and then put the gear into park.
