While driving, is it bad to listen to music using headphones/earphones?

In the majority of the states it is illegal to drive while listening to music by using any type of headset. It could cost you in fines & points on your license.

Even if it is not illegal where you are, it is very unsafe. You need to be able to hear emergency vehicle sirens when you are driving. That would be another citation & points if you are listening to music & did not know you had an emergency vehicle trying to get around you.

And regarding the people that blast their music so loud everyone can hear it, they do get cited for excessive noise and other infractions. Just not all the time. The police unfortunately cannot be everywhere.

It's actually illegal! Using headphones would reduce the likeliness of you hearing a police/ambulance siren or even a car horn. However, this may be less relevant to you if you listen to your car radio speakers really loudly anyway. Also, you may want to consider whether you spend a lot of time on an interstate, large highway, or a congested area; all of which are conditions in which hearing someones horn or a shout have elevated importance. In these conditions I'd highly suggest not using headphones.

If you decide to use headphones, you may want to stay away from those headphones that have the noise-cancellation feature.

Dont get Infected

why dont you just get the plugin for your mp3 player so you can play it out of your car radio? anyway you can actually get a ticket for having headphones on while driving in my state.

It's very very very BAD and dangerous to you and others. You can't hear outside traffic at all with headphones so you won't be able to hear a car horn. If you have to listen to your mp3 player get an radio adaptor that you hook up to your mp3 player so that it will play through the car speakers. They're cheap $20< and much safer.

its not only bad it is against the law in places. your supposed to be able to hear a horn or warning shout<

no but sometimes yes because if there is an oncoming emergency vehicle like a fire truck ambulance or Police car you wont be able to hear the sirens ringing until they are VERY close to you.

depends.
if you have headphones that block out all background noises, then your going to have some problems.
otherwise you'll be fine.

wel it would cut down on what you might hear but sure ive done it a many of times wouldnt be much differents than radio being turn up loud
