Who was in the worng (driving)?
|
I was driving 40mph on the dual carriage way in the inside lane.. there was a van in the outside lane driving just in front of me, he went to go into the inside lane but moved over and put a signal on as moving.. as he moved i got closer was slowing down as realised he was moving in) and then he moved back and then moved over again and put his hazards on..
2 questions, who was in the wrong? Was I undertaking as I never thought i was and why did they put their hazards on? Additional Details can i just add in response to one of the answers.. he never seen me, I seen he was actually moving in.. he was taking his time and never indicated til was half way over, also his speed decreased.. i was maintaining my speed.. When i braked that was when he moved back over..

He probably started to move over not realizing you were there and the hazards were to say my bad. |

He was sort of in the worng as he should have made sure there was enough space between you and the back of his van before he pulled in, He probably flashed his hazards to say thank you for allowing him in, I flash my beacons on my recovery truck when i get flashed in or someone pulls back to allow me in |

you are not classed as undertaking unless you move from the right lane into the left and go back into right to pass someone. sounds like the van driver only spotted you when they started to change lane, the hazard lights seem like an apology for cutting in on you. you have done nothing wrong |

i gather you mean a small transit type van
these have many blind spots
the flash of the hazards is usually to appologize
hard to say who was wrong from from you're question
don't worry about it |

I think you should have slowed and let him pull over. He may of put his hazards on to indicate he had a problem and needed to get over to the side of the road quickly. |

ok you were in the wrong you should have hung back to give him space ...u were tecnically undertaking him ....he was lucky enough to see u and avoid hitting u ..how ever he felt he was in the wrong and apologised by flashing his hazards....but also he was in the wrong by not taking due care and attention and making his move before he could see that it was clear to do so ...unless u were in his blind spot and he could not see u ....what i can gather from this is that u are both at fault . |

Putting the hazards on was him saying sorry.
It was his fault and he admitted it. |

You would be in the wrong for not paying complete attention to the situation that was ahead of you, sorry........ |

Something similar happened to my mate on the dual carriage way. This is because he was driving at 35 or 40mph when the speed limit is....60 i think.Forgive me if im wrong!Maybe he was just an impatient driver. |

I guess he threw the hazards on to indicate he was making a sudden move and wanted to get peoples attention. You were in the right because he failed to change lanes safely. You may have been in his blind spot. It's his job to make those moves safely. However, take note on trucks and vanslike that because the blind spots are bigger. If your going to over take a vehicle like that, do it quickly. Try to position yourself so that you can see him/her in the side mirror. Back off if you see them looking around alot. That's what I look for when driving a semi truck. |
