What kind of stereotypical garbage is that??? In driving, as well as ANYTHING else, there are both males and females who excell and those who lack skill. I'm not just going to defend women because I too have seen those ladies applying makeup, eating their lunch and talking on the cell phone while driving. But, I have also seen men lighting cigarrettes, changing their CD's, eating lunch and talking on the phone while driving. However, I do think that for the most part, women have less confidence driving because of the fact that (some) men constantly assure them that they have less skill. |

Statistically, I'm sure you already know the "worst" drivers are males aged 25 and under, that's why your insurance is crazy. I do have to agree about anyone putting on make-up or yakking on cell phones while driving. |

I've seen just as many men on the phone whilst driving, I don't think its just women who are bad drivers ... ... ... |

They aren't.
That's why we pay lower insurance premiums than males.
Single out as many individual females as you like, the insurance premiums don't lie. |

They aren't. One accident seen by you doesn't make females the worst drivers. You didn't see the 500 male drivers having accidents at the same moment, did you? |

I personally don't think that female drivers are bad drivers, any drive would not operate a vehicle to fullest if they were on a cell phone, or putting on make up, of course you would be asking for an accident if you were not focused on the road.
but that can go both ways not necessarley that gender. |

bad drivers are not gender specific, they are all around us and a good driver spots them quickly and takes appropriate action. |

You're going to get a whole lotta nasty comments on this one.
I think that statistically, women are involved in fewer accidents (based on insurance claims) than men are. The women you're describing in your Question were being careless, and allowing themselves to be distracted. The fact that one of them was putting on makeup (usually a "girls-only" activity) is irrelevant; the fact is they weren't focused on driving, which can happen to anyone.
I've encountered plenty of awful drivers...some men, some women, some young, some old.
(by the way...nice avatar, Melark!) |

Worse than drivers of:
Hummers?
Pickups?
SUVs?
Lincolns or Cadillacs?
BMWs, Audis or Porsches?
Lexus, Infinitys or Acuras?
Corvettes or Mustangs?
American sedans?
Minivans or station wagons?
Japanese or Korean cars?
Old drivers?
Under 25 drivers?
Japanese motorcycle or Harley drivers?
Native or naturalized citizens? Immigrants?
I hope I didn't leave anyone out.
Bad drivers can be found in any car, ot any age, of any gender. |

I've seen worse. Arrogant drivers who think they're superior to everyone else are much more scary. |

Kind of an instigating question, and a lot (not all mind you) of bad answers!!!
Men and women equally do their fair share of foolish things while driving. In my experience, men drive aggressively, while women seem to be more distracted behind the wheel. Cell phones effect each party equally and although their use should be eliminated while driving, that isn't the point.
I have seen men shaving, reading the paper, paying too much attention to the stereo. Conversely, I've seen women putting on make up, reading, writing, and trying to discipline the kids while driving.
It is a fact that women in many cases pay lower premiums for their insurance.... What we all have to remember while driving is that we are entrusting our lives and the lives of our passengers to everyone else on the road and trusting them to operate safely and courteously. Also part of the problem is that our highway infrastructure was designed and constructed when every household did not have a car, let alone two.... making our attention to the task at hand that much more vital.... especially in cities and construction zones.
If you have ever been to the Tampa, Florida area, you would see what I mean firsthand, as any accident on the highway here, pretty much closes that road down for hours.... |

Here's some laughs thru the years of driving to work--women putting on foo foo, and eating and washing their face. Men shaving, playing a tamborine, barfing out the door at stop signs, brushing their teeth,
running over curbs while yacking on their cell phones. It's a flip, the trick is to pay attention to what you are doing. Leave at a few minutes ealier or later if you have a driver that annoys you. |

Well. Women have lower insurance rates... which can only mean that statistically we are better drivers. |

it may seem like they are bad drivers but its a conspiracy ... they are all trying to run u down , knock u over and take u out ... u seem to be stuck in a 1950s attitude time warp and need to be dealt with ... |

Well, some TENNAGE girls like to play with their text messaging and talking on the phone all day, but boys can be like that too, mom told this story that she was driving and going to this lane and these boys driving were fast trying to get to that lane and mom hit the brakes fast, she thought they were teasing here, remember things are always not they seem to be |

I don't understand how people put on makeup while driving or why the even do that - I've been behind women on the expressway where they're putting on mascara and going well below the speed limit. I, for one, am not about to put on makeup in the car, even with someone else driving! I'm not big on talking on the cell phone while driving either. I used to have a 35 mile (one way) commute to work on the interstate and I'd see people doing all kinds of crazy stuff behind the wheel (one guy was even reading a book). |

I laugh because I see people driving on the freeway all the time with a phone glued to their ear. I think we should kick out all the people who want to drive while talking on a phone. I'm scared sometimes because some people are really stupid. |

Per mile driven women are slightly worse drivers.
Johns Hopkins:
"Overall, men were involved in 5.1 crashes per million miles driven compared to 5.7 crashes for women, despite the fact that on average they drove 74 percent more miles per year than did women." |

hey weman are not all bad drivers some are just stupid and shouldn't have there license but my mom drives me to my grandmas and to school she talks on her phone only when necesary and if someone calls her she asks if she can call her/him back so not all woman are bad just do what you have to do and stay away from them! |

ok so I have said in the past that I think women ARE worse drivers than men.. but men do talk on the phone, check out their palm pilot, read and shave in the car... so you cant claim women are bad drivers only because we are on the phone. I will admit to poor depth perception and I cant back up for the life of me. I have found that most of my female friends have the same issues. Thats I would say is what makes women worse drivers |

Women and their damn cell phones. i thought women COULD multi-task... guess not. I go through the same crap everyday. I really think one part of the bad driving is the confidence of the woman driver. For example, i was making a left and with limited room i still knew i could squeeze past the other cars. A woman would of been scared hah and most likely wouldn't want to attempt it. Sounds a bit confusing but its simple really. They banned cell phone while driving in New York and many other states and should be banned all over FOR the sake of men with those crazy women drivers!!! |

it's so true though.. I'm 16 and I've already failed my license test twice. |

I don't think they realise that they are sitting in a dangerous piece of machinery - so they don't give it the respect and care it deserves. Last week this woman was tailgating me and when I had to stop sharply (for a learner driver in front) she went into the back of me (very lightly luckily). She just wasn't paying attention or engaging her brain.
Women also seem to lack mechanical sympathy, burning out clutches and stuff like that. |

luner_dragonx

well they are "worst" drivers for some of the following reasons
-talk on phone while driving
-putting make-up on while driving |
