Here in Australia alot of private bus companies are putting seatbelts in their busses. My son doesnt take a bus to school but whenever his class go on excursions they take private busses which makes me happy to know that my son is safely belted in. But our public transport busses are not required to have seatbelts which is stupid! I think the reason being is because most people are required to stand when no seats are available in order to increase profits for the company! With sooo many school bus accidents it a wonder that governments across the world have not made this a law. |

the real reason, too much money try lobbing in dc to get it changed seems like a very worthy cause. but for the bs dc reason they have hugh back seats. |

Simple answer is money. And the fact that less than 1% of injuries are the direct result of bus accidents. Combine that with the millions it would take to retrofit school buses, and the time it would take to ensure every child was buckled in, and you can bet that it won't happen. |

When I was in school they tested seat belts on school buses for about a week. Kids were beating each other with them like wips and nobody wore them. |

in my school district the buses have seat belts. no one wears them though. and they would pro. cause internal damage since they are just the lab belts. |

There have been studies that show seat belts on buses are more dangerous than not having them. Without the seat belts children will actually bounce off of the high seat backs. Where if they are buckled in the seats are so close together that when they go forward they break their necks ;-(. Airbags would probably do the same. |
