Why aren't speed limit cameras mounted over freeways?

Money. The state and local highway federations do not want to install a camera every mile. Every mile? That's a lot of money to install and build each camera just to catch speeders. Also the state's wouldn't build it because if the speeding cameras are visible that would mean less money because of less speeders. I understand what you are getting at. It would cut down on speeding accidents, however to the state its about money. Its not practical. Besides its cheaper to have officers sit on the side of certain areas and catch speeders.

Because people complain about it. Once a mile is a little bit much, expensive, but the general idea is the sound. But it causes a big fuss. The only REAL problem with it is that you don't know who the driver is, only the owner. There are ways around this, of course, but it gets more expensive. On the other hand, speed cams are very effective. So they should be put in place. But so should dynamic speed limits, based on conditions and road quality, decided by Engineers.

I've wondered the same question. Where I live they have speed cameras over freeways. The drivers in LA are crazy.

don't need them on freeways cuz their patrolled by aircraft. there are hash mark on the pavement to measure your speed. airplane or chopper radios to ground unit-end of story.

People drive at the speed they are comfortable with on the freeway. When the state of Montana removed the speed limit on highways, highway deaths didn't rise at all.

I'm a speeder and I wouldn't want that. With all the drivers on the freeway, it'll be hard for cameras to catch everybody. And just because the owner of a car gets caught, that doesn't mean that's who was speeding.

Maybe in some areas, but not every mile. That's too many cameras and too expensive.

think about all the freeway miles in the US, millions and millions and your suggesting we spend billions of dollars mounting high speed detection devices every mile on a freeway in our crappy economy? and how would they monitor the millions of cars on a freeway? even if connected to law enforcement which would cost more money, theres no way police could get them all, its a good idea if we had the money to afford that but that seems like a idea for future
