Why aren't there seat belts on school buses yet?

This is a great question. The main reason why school buses do not have constraints is because they may actually cause more harm. Think about this, if there is an accident and a school bus is involved, then the children in restraints may suffer from more injuries by being restrained. It may make sense to have the children in seat belts, but it causes more harm if there is an accident. Lets just say a school bus is in an accident and the bus is flipped over. With the children being in restraints they are thus pinned in the wreckage. That causes more injury when you are pinned in. It also increases the likelihood of a fatality if you cannot retreat from the wreckage so quickly. As it stands now, buses don't have seat belts. I'm not saying its a bad idea to have seat belts, but its just a way to keep children from being pinned in the wreckage.

Edit: One other reason, is also the amount of money that the government is not willing to give to these causes. It would cost a great deal just to provide safety restraints to all school buses in every school district.

because government loves money and if they put seat belts on buses that would cost LOTS and they would have to keep doing it and that means money out of there paycheck...so that why we don't have seat belts on buses...

The reason is if there is a fire a little kid may not be able to take their seatbelt off. Everyone must be able to get off the bus in a certain amount of time. The bus driver cant be going around unbuckling ppl.

Oh, good question! I have wondered why there aren't seat belts for all bus passengers for years.
The bus driver has a seat belt. Oh, but his life is more important than us passengers, right? He's got a way better seat, too. But his comfort outweighs ours, I guess. And the laws of physics are miraculously suspended on the bus.
Now we know that, while driving our cars, the cops are right on you like a predator if you are not wearing your seat belt.
Could it be that the state has no interest in putting belts on buses because the cops can't collect fines easily from bus passengers?
The standard answer is that buses have handles on the seat in front onto which you can hold. What a bunch of bull! We have all seen the videos of school kids bouncing about and down violently on buses. The forces are way too great to just "hang on."
It is a CRIME that seat belts are not available on buses.
The answer is, there are no seat belts on buses yet because we haven't hounded our lawmakers enough about it yet.

It would be too pricey to get new buses with seat belts already in them or even to install seat belts.
I don't think buses fell under the seat belt act either.
If you hit a car, chances are, unless the child is standing, there is going to be none to minimal injuries.
