Because the nanny state decided that people could not make their own choices, but needed to be controlled in every facet of their lives.
Rather than trying to convince people, they decided to force seat belt use.
Bit by bit freedom and personal responsibility are being replaced with governmental control. |

For the soft-hearted that feels they must save all lives, including those of the foolish, a large group of these submitted statistics of survival in fatal car crashes to various members of our governing body. As you well know, statistics can be manipulated to show whatever you want, but when you have the full weight of all the law-enforcement bodies behind seat-belt laws, it doesn't take much to get it enacted into law. |

because the insurance industry who makes more money then god found out that they have to pay less claims if people wear their seat belts, they with all their money lobbied congress and the like and got the law passed. Simple and a fact. |

Because they save lives and people are to dumb to use them. |

Who goes there?

Too many people were dying as a result of not wearing their seat belt. Statistics do show that people are more likely to survive a car accident when wearing a seat belt. |

Because they help save lives and prevent serious injuries. Think about it, if you are not secured properly in a collision you can be ejected from the vehicle and your chance of serious injury/death increases dramatically. Also airbags cannot protect you if you are not secured properly. Statistically you will be much safer in the event of a collision if you are wearing your seat-belt (whether in the front or back seat). If you value your life buckle-up. |

Well, to be frank, I think they thought "Hey, heres a hunch, the accidents these people were in didnt wear seatbelts and had their head go through the windshield. I think they should have worn it. Lets make it a law" |
