It is possible they saw through the obvious money pit. The new inspection system is horrible. It places the responsibility of controlling your vehicles emission efficiency directly to the buyer, who has no expertise or mechanical know how to solve the problem themselves. Which forces the buyer to get repairs to oxygen sensors and the like that while unfixed may hurt gas mileage, but would otherwise not render the vehicle 'unsafe' or undriveable in any way. Not to mention the exorbitant cost for inspection stations to upgrade to the new equipment. It cost anywhere from $7000 to $10000 for what is essentially a desktop computer and a scan tool. Normal inspection, such as brake lights, head lights, and turn signals make sense as these impact other drivers safety on the road, but forcing you to fix oxygen sensors and egr valves is completely unneccesary, and quite easily seen as a lame excuse to charge unfair prices for equipment and inspection. |

I didn't know that they did but if so then maybe they are going to see how the newer system works in North Carolina first.

The state's new electronic vehicle inspection program will go online Nov. 1, one month later than the original launch date.
A statement from the state Division of Motor Vehicles said the change was made to allow additional time to install computers throughout North Carolina.
The computers will electronically connect more than 2,300 safety-only inspection stations that were not previously linked to DMV.
Electronic vehicle inspections will mean vehicles that undergo an emissions or safety inspection on or after Nov. 1 will no longer receive a windshield sticker. Instead, the vehicle's inspection will be synchronized to be due the same month as the vehicle's registration renewal each year.
DMV has trained more than 6,500 technicians, instructors and DMV staff for the changeover and will complete testing of new software by Oct. 1.
