Why do bus drivers insist on stopping on pedestrian crossings instead of before them?

From the way your question is worded, it sounds like you mean when they are in a queue of traffic and not at a reconigsed bus stop. If thats the case then its because they are inconsiderate.
In this case, and if you feel strongly about it, why not take the matter up the the bus company, after all, they have a massive advertising sign there, which is not doing them any good!
I would expect that the cases of this happening are few though, as the drivers are professional (well mostly) and despite what other people have commented on this site, do know the highway code - they did have to pass another driving test, which also covers the code.

you seem to be expecting people to show common manners and decency only problem is it hardly exists especially with bus drivers.

Some bus drivers like some car drivers are very inconsiderate. Bus drivers however, do have a few more problems than the norm though. Cars parked in bus laybys mean they have to park in the road and therefore block the traffic, sometimes resulting in them also blocking pedestrian crossings etc.
Buses are not allowed to reverse, therefore have to stop where they can easily pull out again.
My ex husband is a bus driver and has to put up with not only verbal abuse but physical abuse and was very nearly shot in the head last year by kids who had a ball bearing gun. It hit his front window but missed him by about 6 inches. They are an easy target for yobs and are spat on, hit, and have bricks thrown through the windows on a regular basis, not to mention the drunks and the druggies and those who refuse to pay.
Spare a thought for the poor bus driver when he (or she) annoys you next time, they are probably having a very bad day...I wouldnt do this job for anything.

The real reason is simple if you stop and think about, There are usually sewers at every corner so the operator of that bus is trying to dip the front tire into that space so that the front end of the bus is that much closer to the sidewalk or curb for either an elderly person or handicapped. this way they do not have to fall unto the bus.
Because you are not riding the bus or handicapped you would not see the reasoning behind it.

I really agree with you on this subject.I am a driver,and it does annoy me,because the traffic lights are clearly visible,and there is no need for it,as you say.
A lot of drivers seem to think the highway code,no longer exists once they've passed their tests,whether it be bus or a private car.
I feel for the elderly,people with prams and young children,and people with disabilities in these situations.
I think a new law should be brought in,about blocking the view of pedestrian signals.
If they can have cameras to spot cars that jump red lights,why can't they do one for vehicles blocking any sort of crossing?

I completely agree! Someone should tell them that the first rule of driving is the safety and comfort of your passengers and other road users, and that includes pedestrians! I also get annoyed when car users park their cars half on the pavement, so that when I'm walking my little boy to school I have to push his sister, who's in a buggy, on to the road, because they have left so little space. Shoot them on sight and crush their cars!
