Why do cyclists on the A3 feel they can cycle on the carriageway rather than the cycle path?

They have a right to do so. Same as off road drivers insist on churning up our byways.
A lot of cycle paths are not that cyclist friendly - especially at junctions.
I pay road tax on my car but I commute by bicycle. I pay less in fuel and stay fit.
Every week I have problems with inconsiderate drivers. It matters not that I wear flourescent safety gear.
All drivers should be made to ride a bike before they take a driving test so that they become aware of other road users.

Try to understand them, anyway bicycle is no match for a car. Just give them a way to maneuver. who knows maybe its your friend. Cycle path is not that long sometimes it end up in lamp post. and cycling is good for your health. Think this way if you see cyclist on that area he helps to the environment, lessen traffics & contributing to health campaign.

man u really need to get a reality check. does the road have ur name on it or is it 'titled' to u? i didnt think so. if the cycle path is trashed with ruts and holes while the road is nice and smooth, what road would u take? seems like u dont want to be bothered having to: share the road, having to be on the lookout for bikes, or dont think that u should be required to pay any kind of attention to the task at hand...and because bikes are smaller than cars, having to look for them takes too much time out of ur cell phone conversations.

Most people that are answering this question are drivers where as I love to cycle everywhere.

Although I don't pay road tax I do pay tax, I have done my cycling proficiency so consider myself a safe cyclist. I have as much right to be on the road as a pedestrian crossing the road, a rider & horse, a sheep farmer taking his sheep from one field to the next.

I do find the ones that complain about 'us cyclists' are the least aware drivers. Look around and be aware, instead of driving too close to the curb and too fast.

Plus bikes have been around on roads across the world a lot longer than cars (since 1816 German Baron Karl von Drais). So in reality it is cars that are invading the cyclistâ€™s space.

As for the A3, I am not aware of how the path works but why can't a cyclist use the road??? Just because drivers aren't paying attention (on the mobile, looking at Sat Nav, listening to the radio) there is no reason for us not to us the road is there? Fair enough a path has been provided but it may not always be convenient with roundabouts etc...

So all I can say is embrace the cyclist, slow down & gives us a wink ;-)

Didn't you know, they have the right to do anything they want. Ride on the pavement, jump red lights, ride with no lights endangering other drivers, drive up inside and outside of you. Of course, if there is an accident it is NEVER their fault. They are so smug - they are deluded in the sad belief they are saving the planet. The cyclists that strap their defenceless children to the back are so selfish it's unreal. Make them pay insurance at least.
