i've always wondered that too!! its not like they can drive up to the machine. ha ha. |

in case a blind person has to use the machine and a non-blind person drove them there but doesn't know their password? |

because at the factory, they make everything with braille, so its standardized, and so when u put it together, most things will have braille, no matter what the machine is. |

Drive-Thru atm machines and not only for people that drive.
I have seen numerous people that walk through the drive through.
Also, it is required by law to have brail on most public machines, doors and other items and area's.
Also, There are a few blind people in this world that do drive.
I dont know how they get they're license
But, They drive by sound and since they are blind there mind has actually trained itself to see in there head.
They can seehearvizualize the best when it is raining because they can actually hear every individual rain drop hitting objects in they're surroundings. (as you may have seen in movies)
I hope this helped you |

Large scale manufacturing of machines that work everywhere is the best. Specialization wouldn't make any sense in this case. |

ah yes this question again. first there are no drive thru atm's any more than there are hotel lobby atm's or quick stop atm's. the one you see at the drive thru could just as well have been placed in a retail store, it just happened to be placed at a drive thru so does that mean we should go to the expense of making it different. now? can we finally send this question to the grave< |

because some people might be able to see well enough to drive but have trouble reading so they like braille. My neighbors mom has MS and she can drive but its hard for her to read things. Thats teh best I can figure |

for blind people! durh. lol i dont know why i have wondered that for a while also
actully i belive its part of this act about people with disabilitys that might need to use something in emergancy or something if they dont they can get fined by the gov. |

Because ATMs are usually in drive throughs for convenience factors, but blind people also use them. |

That's a really good question. There are a few reasons. First of all, because ADA is SOOOO strict with the design of everything. Everything that is accessible to an able person must be accessible to a disabled person, regardless of how bizarre it is. Also, The production of those atm machines aren't changed just for the drive-thru, so they just put them there also. Hope this helps! |

They wanted the equal opportunity to be robbed. |

My guess it's an ADA (American with Disabilities Act) requirement. ADA has many really good requirements and some really nonsensical ones too. One size does not fit all.
Additionally, once an ATM vendor has created a model it does not make sense to make many different versions. It is a lot cheaper to take what you have and adapt it to the drive-thru. |

I think its a non-discriminatory act kinda thing. Also, if a person who can see is driving a blind man to the ATM, he needs to be able to put in his password without telling the driver. :) |

They were originally designed for inside service. They got pushed outside for convenience. |

So blind people can use them, duhh :] |

If its DRIVE-THRU, then a blind person shouldn't be driving, but maybe a driver that cants see numbers up close very well needs to use it, they can drive with glasses but up close vision isn't so hot. |

i honestly have no idea. so pointless, since people who are blind can't actually drive.=/ maybe if someone drives a blind person through? |
