It is an offence to use front or rear foglights in the UK if visability is above 100 metres! Those who switch them on in October and off in March are not only commiting an offence but displaying their stupidity! |

Because they are stupid and do not realise it is illegal to have fog lamps on when it is not foggy. |

People( myself included) drive with foglights on in dark conditions because it is being PROACTIVE! Many dont realize that fog lights also have better lighting charachteristics than just a low beam light in the dark. This tranlates into better driver awareness for changing conditions such as wildlife crossing roads, or people, vehicles or others on road shoulders. I'ts called safety, people.
And this not illegal where I come from. If any state prohibts this use then they could care less about preventing road accidents. |

its to help their egos.
they are saying 'look at me, i dont drive an entry level car. i could afford the top spec'.
i have them, and never use them. they are more for cosmetics these days anyway. |

Because they imagine that they are driving lights and therefore think they look cool. Either that or they forgot and/or don't know how to turn them off |

Because they are thoughtless, self centred and ignorant. |

coz they do not know they have them on I for one do not know which lights on my Range Rover are fog lights. I suppose I could look in the manual but from I can see where I am going it is all good. |

Many manufacturers will turn the fog lights on at half power as Daytime Running Lights. |

Simply because they have them on. I don't really understand how that creates any discomfort for other drivers. Fog lights are located under the bumper and they are facing down, so the light they emit goes at the ground and not up in the air where it blinds other drivers. And they are not any brighter than your regular lights. I don't really understand what everybody here is complaining about. And about it being illegal, i might be illegal when you have those huge after market ones, but i have never heard of anybody getting a ticket for regular stock ones. |

well perhaps they forget to turn them off, and i must admit driving behind a fog lamp is not something i enjoy, they are bright and hurt your eyes, i think drivers who drive with them on when it is not foggy are anti social |

Most probably their windscreen is misted up, and they think its fog. |

I could ask that very same question....it drives me mad to see that. Nine times out of ten, the fog lamps aren't set so that the beam is lower, as on headlamps so it's like having double the brightness.
It hurts my eyes something chronic, something they obviously can't be bothered to consider.
So.......if ever you're driving along with your fog lamps on when it's not foggy, and some tw@t of a woman driver in a little car suddenly turns her headlamps onto full beam...you know that it's MEEEEE!!!!
oh.....and by the way, it is actually ILLEGAL to have them on if it's not foggy...classed as showing more lights than is necessary for the conditions
so now ya know....lol |

Yes, really. One time i was distracted by the light an hit the sign of the road. may be the forget. or may be they do it because of sadism. |

Some newest vehicles have an "automatic" light setting. Which the lights turn on automatically no matter what the cause is. It has to do with the fact to save people the hassle to keep remembering to turn their lights on and off. |

I do have fog lights on because some drives just don't see my yellow car without fog lights on at night. Thy are trying to drive right through me if they are not on. I had several incidents like that and now my fog lights always on at night. Even wen I drive my other white big SUV. Because some of the drivers don't see this big SUV in the dark. Well may be there a lot of blind drives out there?
Also I have noted that I could see the road better when fog light is on. Some pedestrians and bicycle riders wear black pants and black coats or T-shirts at night and you can barely catch them with regular light, but can see them just fine with fog light.
And yes it has nothing to do with look cooler or something like that. I don't really care about that part. I don't run fog lights at day time if there is no fog. |
