Why do drivers need to stop for pedestrians? They should stop for us drivers instead!?

When we sit our written test for our licence, it says that we must give way to pedestrians that are on a designated walkway/crosswalk.

We are all pedestrians at times, and we'd never get across the road if we had to wait for vehicles to go by.

Hence the rule pedestrians use a designated walkway/crosswalk and we cross safely, because the vehicles yield to us, as it is a designated crosswalk.

Cross the road in a non designated crosswalk then the vehicle has the right of way. And the pedestrian is in the wrong.

i guess if we didn't stop for pedistrians on some roads they would get very old waiting to cross

the leg was invented before the wheel, so pedestrians have right of way,
as for the pedestrian being able to see you because you were in your hummer h2 & you could not see the pedestrian because it was dark out side next time TURN YOUR LIGHTS ON it might help if not go to spec savers

It's a kid, give him a break. Kid and a hummer, who would win in that collision?? The kid wouldn't make a dent in the bumper.

That's the law, like it or not, and the kid was in the walkway.

you should give way to pedestrians cause you know the rules of the road. Not all pedestrians are drivers and understand what you are about to do.

It was dark outside and you couldn't see him.....did you have your lights on? Do you have a sight impairment that means you shouldn't be driving? Or is your ego just getting in your way? A pedestrian crossing kinda gives you a clue as to who has right of way at that point don't you think. Plus....what is it with everyone wanting to sue someone else!! Why can't people accept responsibility anymore for their actions!?

This is a simple answer to give. The reason that drivers need to stop for pedestrians is because they have more power and more of the advantage because they are in a vehicle, while the fourteen year old or pedestrian is, when compared, weak. This gives police officers and anybody more than enough reason to be on their side.

We give way to pedestrians because if you hit one you could be up for a murder charge.
But yes you are right too many people just step out in front of cars, and they should be told off by the law.
But you wont be able to anything about your ticket
Just slow down so next time somebody walks out in front of you, you will have time to stop...Just think how you would feel if you did hit and hurt(if not worse) Someone

Would you like pedestrians to bow down at your passing as well? Maybe throw rose petals in your path? What would you do if someone with your attitude ran over your mother or brother, then sued you for being stupid enough to let them walk in their way? Come on, use a little of the common sense God tried to give you, or turn in your driver licence. It appears to be defective.

they were given this right to minimize them being run over by people like you. you sound like one of the thousands of people who haven't a clue as to the rules of the road. the pedestrian had the right of way because they were in the crosswalk. . If I remember correctly, before so many people gave up walking and put so many vehicles on the roadways, drivers had to yield to pedestrians any where they attempted to cross. try to remember walking is a right-- driving is a privilege!!!

print a copy of your question in court for the judge, hopefully he will revoke your driver's license. I'm surprised you didn't ask that if you killed the ped, and they got flesh and blood on your front bumper who would pay to detail your car... maybe that would be a good one for your insurance company.

Alright, this is what you do, when its dark, you turn your lights on in your hardcore H2, this way you can see people in crosswalks. And yeah you should definatly try to sue them, and you will need to represent yourself because there isnt (hopefully) a stupid enough lawyer who will take this case. That 14 year old had no right to be walking around at night, that ***** should have been driving or something, right?

Oh by the way, I hope that for asking this stupid *** question and actually feeling the way that you do towards pedestrians, you get hit by a moving vehicle when you are trying to cross a street, because from the way you sound, you probably wont have that H2 or your license for very much longer.
