Its not just imports....most domestic cars have them also.

They don't have to, I have a Toyota Celica GT that only has a rev limiter. Most Manual shift cars aren't governed

Many of these cars are very likely to be raced. The manufacturer can limit their liability for lawsuits by showing that they made the car safe to drive at normal legal speeds but are not suitable for racing unless the owner removes the governor.

A governor is used so the car won't go over a certain speed, that's if your asking about an engine governor. Good Luck and GOD Bless

Most cars made do now. Its to ensure you wont be breaking the law. I think only cars in Germany can have them removed or not installed at all due to the use of the Autobahn. Most governors are set fairly high anyway. It's not like you need to do 115mph in an SUV or maybe even 190 in a sports car.

There top end speed is to high for most peoples driving abilities. The engines are built to a higher quality .

So you don't exceed what the engine can do and sue the manufacturer for trying to race a 4 cylinder in an 8 cylinder competition.
