Why do manufacturers make cars with speeds over 100 MPH!?!?!?

If it's illegal to even go that fast. . .

For many people, high performance means rapid acceleration, as much as raw speed. When a car is engineered to reach, even, legal speeds as quickly as possible, it is hard for a car NOT to have a potential for a top speed in excess of 100 mph.
Manufacturers CAN add equipment that, after reaching a max speed of, say, 75 mph, will prevent the car from going any faster but, that will limit the car's ability to go into a passing gear on hills, or accellerate out of trouble, or, even tow a reasonable trailer in a lower gear.
Besides, the additional equipment will add to the cost of the vehicle, and automakers have been reluctant to add safety features unless forced by government regulations. |

I would assume thats just the way the concept was years ago and it continued I mean it seems kind of foolish to go and stop making cars until we can find a way to keep them under 100 mph. For the cars that can top 120 mph plus they would be good for track racing though. Why do you think so many young kids have accidents its because they think they can handle the car doing 90 mph and they find out you can't. Other than that I have no idea why they did it I mean I don't find it a problem. |

if there is no law then they dont care what happens as long as they get there money.it would also be hard (expensive) to make an engine the could carry alot of weight and last long if it wasnt powerful |

Because that is what America wants, and buys. It is not always about the top speed, it might the fact that the car will accelerate faster, and help you merge into highway traffic. To be realistic, a lot of the time, you have to do 85 just to maintain the flow of traffic during rush hour.
The power is to be used, not abused, as some other people have said before. |

In case the speed limit is raised ?
Because buyers think that a car with a high maximum speed will handle better at lower speeds (which is not always true) ?
Marketing ? |

This question is getting BORING!!! I want my car to go faster than the speed limit because I drive faster than the speed limit most of the time. You want to make safety an issue look someplace else besides the speed cars are capable of going. Try drunk drivers. Now there's a crusade everybody will get behind. |

THIS QUESTION AGAIN ???????????????????
IF YOU ARE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION AND THE POLICE OR THE EMS WILL TAKE TO LONG TO RESPOND, THEN YOU WILL SOMETHING THAT HAS BALLS TO GET YOU THERE AND SO ON AND SO ON.
REMEMBER THAT CARS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. |
