A lot of state laws vary from one country or state to the next; yet the asker doesn;t say where he is; and the responder doesnt take that into consideration when giving in answer.
Why do people rush into answer questions that they don;t know the answer to>

For the same reason that people ask questions without saying where they live or what type of car they're driving or ask questions like, "My car won't start. What's wrong with it?". That's why I answer, many times, that laws vary from state to state and country to country and they should ask their local authorities or tell them they need to get some specifics into their question. What was it Forrest Gump's mother said, "Stupid is as stupid does". |

Whenever I see a question that requires state-specific information, when there was no state specified, I try to provide general information.
For example, and common question is "How do I get my learner's permit??", and I might say to that person that the age at which you can get a learner's permit varies by state. For example, in South Dekota the age is 14, California it's 15.5, and New York it's 16. California you just take a written test and get your license right away, NY you have to spend a certain amount of time learning before you can take a practical exam and get your full license.
So you see, even if a question is not complete in mentioning the state in which the asker resides, there is still, to some extent, general information that can be given. |
