because sometimes standing at the actual intersection takes forver, you could be there up to ten minutes watching thousands upon thousands of cars fly by while you stand around like an idiot.
i usually cross at the intersection because in orlando its WAAY too dangerous to jaywalk unless its late at night and everybody's asleep or theres light traffic
i chance it every now and then, never had any too close calls with cars, but jaywalking can be extremely risky depending on when and what road you try to cross
other times an intersection may not be close to you and you may feel too lazy to walk up to it to cross, so you jaywalk |

And sometimes it might be faster to just jaywalk across the road instead of making a big u-turn to go across the crosswalk. |
