Why do people drop their kids off on the yellow zig zag lines outside schools?

good question!
i am a bus driver and going past schools at in or out time can be so dangerous cos of the way people park! there no room for us buses to pass.. we squeeze through, cars have to back up or mount the kerb! and ur meant to be looking out for kids running into the road!!!!
as for mobile phones it drives me nuts... if u really need ot use the phone.. pull over!!! im sure no phone call cant wait 2 mins! the amount of lack of concetration i see cos of people on their phones.. and they dont even realise! when u drive all the time u can tell from just the way someone drives that they r on the phone!
i think there should be signal blockers inside a car so u have to stop and get out.. we all survived perfectly before mobile phones came along!

The same reason they leave their children in apartments alone - no respect for anything or anyone else - a law unto themselves.

cox they are ignorant pigs and have no regard for anyone else as long as they are ok jack .I drove a coach with lots of kids on it and while trying to park up to let the kids off safely the mums were trying there best to stop my coach and done there best to stop me from parking it up safely so there kids would be safe getting off all i saw was animals getting to there offspring without a care for anyone else

Most likely ignorance.
Ignorance of the highway code, and/or ignorance of the safety implications and disruption caused.

The same attitude and lack of respect applies in equal measure to the wearing of seat-belts and use of handheld mobiles.

But then I'm not perfect as there are occasions when I speed, which some see as the ultimate driving sin.

More Traffic Police would help, but they are a cost as opposed to 'safety' cameras which are seen as an asset.

I could go on. And on.

I agree, they park on the "humps", too, we have a woman who parks up to pick her kids up at 2-15 every day, I wouldn't mind but the kids don't come out of school till 3-20.

Because it's easy and safe for their own children. It's other people's children who are put in added danger. Seeing as it's always going to happen, maybe the question should be, now that many children are taken to school by car, why don't local authorities provide a safe dropping off point preferably supervised ?

its quick, so the kid can jus jump straight out and roll into school...effeciency and parent can dash off to work ..
i take it you dont drive..parking cars take time
