Why do people in cars and trucks have to buckle up but its okay for motorcycle riders not to wear hements?

Why is it okay for motorcycles with 2 wheels and nothing around them and often are going faster then cars and trucks not to wear helments but I in my truck with something surrounding me and has 4 wheels and an airbag have to wear a seatbelt and get a fine if I dont! Ho is that fair?! Heck my truck even has a 4 point roll cage in it! This la has to be the stupidest law ever! I also feel its taken away my freedom of choice it should be my choice just like the guys on 2 wheels!

I totally agree. Its all about the money. Revenue is what the states are after, not safety.

Motorcycle riders have to wear helmets in most places, including Manitoba, where I live.
As far as the personal choice to wear a seat belt goes, that is an argument that qualifies one for a Darwin Award. An unbelted body that flies through a windshield is a horrid mess that somebody has to clean up, and there is an excellent chance somebody's children will see it and have nightmares for years. You do not have the right to inflict that on anybody.

I agree that riding a bike without a helmet is stupid but do you really want to be as stupid as them? The seat and shoulder belt insure that you're in the right position in the event your airbag deploys. Without them the airbag could cause you serious internal injuries. That is not an opinion, it is a stated fact from the highway safety institute found during tests with crash dummies and from some victims during actual crashes where they weren't wearing belts. In Texas you don't have to wear a helmet if you're over 17 but the insurance companies can renege on the coverage in the event of an accident if you weren't and the state will not pay for you to live as a vegetable. If that occurs and your family won't or can't pay, you get unplugged.

I think the law was intended to care for the kids. A lot of people don't wear seat belts and don't care if the kids do either. The kids or infants in baby seats don't know any better so somebody needed to step in and make the seat belt safety a law to protect the kids and infants that the parents let go unbuckled. You don't see many kids or infants on bikes so they figure the bike riders are not endangering others lives just their own. In some states it is the law that you do have to wear a helmet.

because there are ALOT more cars than motorcycles out there. so there are more car deaths and when people look at those stats, they freak out. so now there are laws to decrease car deaths

I agree. I don't have to wear a helmet in the non-communist states of the union, but still must wear a seat belt.

there is a shortage of organs for transplants. Bikers are the best source.

thats probably the dumbest question ive heard this week. think about it, "i should have the choice whether i wanna kill myself or not." if it means that much to you, then kill yourself now and get it over with. i have to wear a helmet, and i would, even if it wasnt the law here. suicide is against the law so why should wearing your seatbelt be your choice. its your truck but not your road

I agree. I do think there should be a requirement for children under 18, though. I think the airbag actually hurts you more if you're not buckled up btw. However, I never wear mine. I know, I know....thumbs down. It's bad, bla bla bla.
