Why do people not wear their seat belt?

I, on the other hand, always wear the safety belt - it's called habit.

Stupidity and ignorance first come to mind, however, many people refuse to wear seat belts.

They say that the belts are too uncomfortable, or they say they are only driving a short distance.

They may also say that they simply forget.

I know some friends whom had heart by-passes,, They claim the seatbelt causes pressure on there chest !!!! My Brother is an EMT. He says' 30% of crashes he attends, the passengers who wore seatbelts had more injuries than the ones who had no seat belt on. Maybe it's luck ? But i wear mine anyhow. Some seatbelts have malfunctioned during a crash and people were burned alive !!! I guess it's probably safer in the long run to wear them ... good luck !!

Some people have the mentality that my dad has, which is "you have just as much chance of dying with a seatbelt on as you do off", and then others just feel a seatbelt is too restrictive.

I can write this because I wasn't wearing a seat belt .If I was wearing a seat belt they would have buried me 35 years ago. So that's one good reason for not wearing a seat belt .
Your assumption that saving lives is always a good thing is a false one.
If my wearing a seat belt saves my life but leaves me as a quadriplegic or a vegetable then in all respects death would have been the better and far less expensive alternative.

A big reason that people don't wear seat belts has to do with the law, not safety. They think it's a "commie" law and it takes away the individuals choice of wearing it. If you are in a wreck, the only person that you would injure by not wearing it is yourself, people think they should have the ability to make that choice themselves. Personally, I wear mine but, I have seen instances where people have been pinned in their vehicles due to the seat belt and I had a friend get hit by a semi truck, if he had not been thrown from the vehicle, he would have been run over...tell him that seat belts save lives.

It depend on the situation they drove.
If they drove on less than 30 mph, , logically they didn't need safety belt.
But if they drove on 50 mph or more on highway, it will be danger for their safety.
Daaaaaaaaaaah.
