Why do people run red lights and stop signs?

It get them where they're going a few seconds faster. Of course if someone is coming the other way they may end up being a few months late due to a hospital stay or may miss their appointment entirely by a prolonged stay in the morgue.

With red lights its mainly inattention, or if it only just turned red then they were probably trying to get through while it was orange. Basically no one ever stops at a stop sign because its not necessary, you can tell weather the way is clear way before you actually come to a stop. If it were up to me I would replace them all with give way signs.

It's usually done out of HABIT.
Form safe habits. Always come to a complete stop regardless of what others do. There is a reason to stop.
It gives you a couple of seconds to make sure there is nothing coming to interfere with your path of travel.
It also provides a "safety" factor for the traffic coming the other way without the red light or stop sign.
Many drivers slow down, keep rolling as they look and once in a while, their "A" pillar (front support pillar in the vehicle), blocks an oncoming vehicle. If you actually stop, and that other vehicle is still moving and coming from the right for example. Your "A" pillar is blocking your view, but if you stop, that other vehicle is still moving and you will see it if you STOP, look leflt, right, left, then right again before you attempt a left turn.
So, habits can keep you safe OR get you into trouble.
We cannot control what others do. All we can do is remain safe while driving, be very observant of other drivers, manage your time and space.

They are more concerned about where they are going and how fast they need to get there that they are not paying attention to red lights and stop signs. Its people like that that cause innocent people to lose their lives.

Time is money and red lights and stop signs slow you down. Also, the car uses more gas to stop and then have to build back up to a particular speed.
