Why do people speed dangerously?

Teenagers and older adults (45 - 50 +) are the most prone to be overconfident on the road.

Teenagers are overconfident because they overestimate their skills behind the wheel. They think that they can, when they really can't. This is the most paid attention to case of overconfidence. Most teens come to an sudden and abrupt realization of their lack of driving skills by nearly crashing or crashing because of their failure to comprehend the surrounding vehicles or dangers.

Older adults also tend to speed and overestimate their skills behind the wheel, but not because of their lack of driving skills, but because of their experience behind the wheel. They assume that just because they have been driving for 30 - 45 years, that they are good enough to go faster or be distracted. That they can skip through red lights, because they "know" that traffic starts going a second after the light turns. That they can get out of the house 10 minutes later because they can just drive faster and get their quicker. The reality is that they don't get there any faster, just the illusion of it. Thats why they swerve a lot, accelerate harder, brake harder, and run lights and stop signs.
More movement gives the illusion of going somewhere. The more they do this, the faster they feel like they are going. In reality, they are not.

Unfortunately, they (unlike teenagers) usually never stop their dangerous driving habits. Even though they may be good enough to maneuver the car quicker and run lights without hitting anyone, they pose a danger to other people. They are good enough for themselves, but not good enough for other drivers.

They don't think that it is dangerous - if they did most of them wouldn't do it. They feel that bad things only happen to others. It is normal to be over-confident when young. Little is likely to change it.

If you read Homer, Plato, Aristotle and other lesser Greek and Roman philosophers and writers, nothing has changed with regard to teenagers in several thousand years - the only difference is the things that they own or have access to, (in this case cars) not their attitude.

We are not far off having built-in GPS in all cars with the ability to determine what the applicable speed should be in any area and take automatic steps to correct breaches of traffic law. Until then, don't trust young drivers, don't travel with them if they don't drive safely and be wary of them when driving yourself.

they may just be doing it for the thrill of it, unaware that they are putting their lives and others lives in danger. besides that, they may also be in a rush for something. yes, i agree with you, people these days are so fast-paced that day are unaware of their surrondings be it because of money , work, relastionship issues

Understanding why teens take big risks is a key to good parenting.

As a parent, your job isn't over when they are seventeen, no matter how much they say they are adults.

Good parenting sometimes is a matter of life or death with adolescents.

Adrenaline is one powerful drug. Attenion? Maybe it's the cool factor. Look how "cool" or "crazy" those drivers are! Looks like funnnn. No. I agree, it's dangerous.
