most answers have got you wrong i think !!it seems what your asking is why people use the roadside with all the traffic just a few feet away rather than the verge side and my answer is i don't know what they can be thinking of

If you mean when the car has Broken Down it is actually safer and always recommended on the motorway. You are supposed to move well away from the car too!
The car could be hit as it is causing an obstruction!

If the car is malfunctioning...there could be fumes in the car.

so that if the car gets smashed in to by a vehicle you don't get killed OK simple

most serious accidents on the motorway involve vehicles on the hard shoulder so anybody broken down there is always told to leave the vehicle and move away behind the barrier or up the embankment for safety

pam_dare2dream
Everyone should get out of a broken down car and get away from the traffic, even if it is up a hill. How many police have you seen on the news getting hit with even their lights flashing? People do not pay attention and it is pathetic! Cell phone on the streets should be outlawed and anyone who hits a pedestrian not paying attention should lose their license for good! Driving is a privilege, do it with pride, not stupidity and if you break down, get away from the road. PLEASE!!

You obviously have not experienced your child kicking the back of your seat screaming & shouting - giving you major grief because they need the Loo.... & when they want to go ..they mean Now... believe me

Because it stinks when they piss or shiite or throw up in the car.

Because they are stupid. On the hard shoulder of a motorway I wouldn't even get out of the roadside, I slide over to the passenger side and get out that way - don't fancy getting hit at 70mph

not exactly sure what you are asking but... I don't stop on main highways (with traffic) and take the kids out of their carseats on either side of the car... very very stupid thing to do! if that needs to be done I find a side street that is dead... much safer! now if you are meaning why do they remove them from the car on the driver's side on a quiet side street--- that's because it's virtually impossible to climb over the car seat on the passenger side to get to the car seat on the driver's side to remove that child.... not to mention dangerous to the person doing it (possible back injuries etc) and I am sure not good on the car seat itself, and would probably loosen the car seat so you would need to retighten the lap belt that holds it in.

because they are too lazy to reach inside for the child and are not fit to be parents

Because they are stupid and forget about the childs safety.

It's the same with people who push the pram out into the road first, then check to see if its clear to cross!!
