Why do slow cars speed up when you overtake them?

As they see you approaching in the door mirror they accelerate to get away!
Once you get level with the driver they invariably drop back like a stone, 25mph being far too speedy!!

Does seem that way sometimes!

If it is shortly after a junction or other feature then the car may still be accelerating.

Motorists who are not concentrating properly tend to accelerate when the road starts to go downhill as the load on the engine is reduced even though their foot does not move on the accelerator.

Also, some folks are just plain awkward and don't like being overtaken - a behaviour which is also stupid and dangerous.

They just figure you are going somewhere important and want to get there with you as soon as possible. Or they think you are running from danger and want to flee to safety as well.

I'm sure it's one of the two. Just positive!

A few possible reasons. They may not have realized they were driving slowly until you try to pass them, so they may take the hint and get up to speed. They may think they were going at the right speed, and may be offended by your attempt to pass, and show it by speeding up. Or it may be that they are going at the right speed, and it is only you that considers them slow, and they're responding to what they think is your excessive speed by going even faster. Some of these may not be logical reactions, but who ever said that people were always logical?

Because the people who drive the slow cars hate being over taked, its an offence to them. So they try to stop you (most tw4tish thing to do in the world) but never succeed and usually cause an accident!

I own a very small car which has more than enough power for a quick overtaking manoeuvre but always brings out the worst in drivers as I go by.
A personal threat to the manhood?
Women drivers don't often seem to behave like this.

I know I do it because the person was usually on my *** before he switched lanes. If you ride my car too close I am going to go super slow, one to piss you off and two to lessen the impact when you inevitably crash into me cuz you aren't paying attention when I break. Once the car changes lanes I go back to my normal speed.

I have noticed this on numerous occasions when trying to pass a slower moving vehicle in my HGV - which is limited to 90 kph (56 mph). Car drivers tend to be unable to maintain a steady speed, as the slightest movement of the right foot results in a speed variation. The majority of HGVs now have cruise control fitted so we can maintain a constant speed, and so are able to concentrate on the task of driving, rolling ciggies, peeling oranges, talking non stop on our C.B radios & ogling the "eye candy " in the driving seat!! mini skirts rule!
