Why do so many American's fail to use turn signals?

because to take a split second to flip a leaver either up or down takes time and as we all know time is a very precoius thing. besides that don't you know that when your driving you are suppose to be able to read the other drivers minds. (maybe this is something I missed in drivers education) HAHA

I don't use my turn signals to change lanes on the highway because more often than not it is a signal for other drivers to speed up so that I can't change lanes... I always use them on surface streets so that I don't get rear ended although it just seems to give the person behind me more time to place their hand on the horn because they don't want to slow down... and as far as others using their turn signals most of the time it goes on as as they are completing their turn as if it helps them turn the steering wheel to complete their turn...

they are just lazy and that 5 secs to turn it on or to turn it off they dont use common sense when it comes to driving some of them need to take a reshear course in driving.

So many times people move through this world with only one person on their minds...themselves. Besides being dangerous, not using turn signals is just another example of people not thinking of others. Sometimes, I wish my car had a giant water canon attached to the top that I could use to gently remind people that they aren't the only ones on the road. I'm proud to be one of the 43%.

I think people have become aggressive drivers. In part because society has so many demands these days. Time is money. It only takes a second!

I think it's because they have never got coaght. If a cop pulled them over, maybe they would start.

MAJOR PET PEEVE OF MINE! Then they look at you when you're about to rear end them like you're supposed to know their intentions. EVEN when they do signal (IN FLORIDA AT LEAST) I give ample room until I see wheels turn if they're coming toward me or actually change direction if I'm behind. PLEASE MR. AND MRS. AMERICA USE THE @#$%&%# TURN SIGNAL!! THE LIFE YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN!!

I think that sometimes they just forget, that's especially easy for new drivers. I think that talking on cell phones or to other people in the car could also be reasons, the driver is just distracted and forgets to signal. However I don't think that any of these are good reason's, people should teach themselves to signal every time they turn. It's not only common courtesy, but also a major factor in safety.

Because most of us either forgot what we learned in drivers ed. or we are to lazy to move our hand to use the blinker.I will be the first one to own up to it.Im just as guilty.Im sorry.But I have not been involved in an accident for my failure to use it.I will start using it
more often now.

I've read a lot of answers that say laziness, but I don't think it's that. I think it's more of just thinking of only yourself. so many people out there don't have or practice a little thing called common courtesy, nor do they show even a little respect for anybody. It's all me, me, me and screw everybody else. Most of them don't even do it on purpose or even realize they are doing it. I've seen it in the way kids are being raised nowadays. Their parents allow them to disrespect any adult. I remember when I was a kid, you were taught to respect adults. So I would have to say the main reason they don't use them is a lack of basic common courtesy.

Those people are a**es and they should have their driving priveleges taken away. If you don't have the common courtesy to tell people where you are going to turn, then you shouldn't be driving! I think some of it is laziness, but I think some people do it on purpose just to piss everyone off!

I think most people don't have the manner and courtesy in driving these days. People aren't being considered of other drivers on the road, and thinking they owned the road. That's why they just change lanes and not bother to signal to other drivers as they change lanes.

to move the middle finger..hmm I only use it in some occasions, sometime to hit the blinker, to bllink is what I like to do, extended from my middle finger... anyway, I don't blinker cuz it's most likely "obvious" where I am going or there is no-one arond... tis just me though

Because they are going real fast and don't always care to use their turn signals, or they think no one is close by, so what's the point?

because if they suppose to get in on accident the car beyond them will go in the back of their car and that car driver at the back will be wrong not them.

It's Maddening..... I really believe that they want you the just sit there and guess which way they are going to turn. It is so rude and dangerous.
Police will ticket for this, as it is against the law not to signal in my state.

No there are only excuses. this is one of my biggest pet peeves because so many accidents could have been prevented if someone just used their signal. it doesn't even take 5 sec.

Wish I knew. There is no reason not to and it is negligent not to.How many accidents have occurred due to someones "laziness" not to use a signal? If it is due to a mechanical problem, fix it. Your actions on the road could save anothers life.

I don't know , but law enforcement should initiate some program like the "Click it or Ticket" one currently in use, fail to signal = ticket! Then again , i've seen police not signal either..

there is no reason to not use a turn signal, unless maybe your left arm is broken or something...

maybe some people ran out of blinker fluid but it is not expensive to replace and it only needs to be done once every couple of years
