I truly don't know. It really frustrates me. Feel that if there were some prosecutions the law wouldn't be flouted to much. |

because (and I have seen it with my own 2 eyes) they do it themselves! |

Get on the bandwagon and start canvassing to have a law passed in your state. Until a law is passed law enforcement has no power over the use of cell phones. |

Because people like me will report them for wasting police time if we hear of them wasting time on such pointless laws when paedophiles rapists and murderers wander out streets unchecked. And all complaints must be investigated and the increased number of complaints looks bad, and the chief **** stable dont want to look bad |

Because it's a rubbish law.... And they've got more important things to worry about...... |
|

Right on

That's because their wife and mother uses them...and they know what's good for them....so they let it slide... lol |

It is against the law in New York State ....you get caught the fine is $100 plus a $50 processing fee. It is not worth it when you can buy a hands free phone kit for $20. |

Because in most states, it's still not against the law. New York is the one I know of right now. I think California has passed a similar law, but I'm not sure when it goes into effect. Your right though, it shouldn't be permitted in any state and the law should be enforced. |

As a police officer, I know where you are coming from with this question. Here in Ohio, Cell phone use is not illegal in our area, however if a driver cannot drive the correct speed or drive in the proper lane there is a problen that can be addressed and the person is advised that if hey cannot safely operate the vehicle with the phone on, thy either need to pull off or turn their phone off while driving. |

because there is too many one eyed policemen, unfortunately, most mobile phone users know what side the blind eye is. |

It's because they have better things to do. Same with speeders. Where I work it's 35 mph in front, and people constantly fly by. The local police told us would we rather have robbers coming in the store? Ofcorse not, they're buisy keeping people safe. After that they can worry about protecting us from ourselves. |

Over here in England they don't turn a blind eye!!! It is (I think) a £30 fixed penalty for that!!
I hate losers who think they can drive safely without full concentration! |

In my state its not illegal and prob wont be anytime in the near future |

Because weve all been doing that since we started driving. Also if you think when you have a cell phone to your hear you are still watching the road. Its when your text messaging or messing with the radio or worse the kids in the back seat is when your attention is off of the roadway and accidents happen. |

I'm not sure where you are, but I don't think the majority of states have a law against it yet. Some states are further ahead and even have laws restricting cellular phone use to hands-free devices but other states have nothing on the books yet. It's only a matter of time though.
Plus, phones keep getting smaller and smaller, so I imagine sometimes police have a hard time seeing if the person is on the phone or just has their hand up by their face, etc. |

I see them on them all the time |

i dont know why they dont do anything. it gets on my nerves. if you ask me its an accident waiting to happen. |

JOHN jen

i dont know why but i think its about time they did something about it as people have been killed by drivers using mobile phones, perhaps a £200 fine and 6 penalty points might help and maybe some brownie points for the police who catch them |

If its a blind eye they probably didnt see them |
|

they really dont care until an accident is caused then they have reason to prosecute |
|

cos they have a blind eye there turning i suppose they didn't see. |

I'm a truck driver in UK and i use hand free 'blue tooth'. I see worse than using phones. When you are in a truck you can see down into cars. You would be surprised how many car drivers are using a laptop at 60 mph. FRIGHTENING Isn't IT. |

If it's the law they're not doing their job |

Because they use cell phones while driving too. I saw one just the other day.
And to Chris P. who said this is a question just for the U.K.
Its illegal in some states in the U.S.A. as well. |
|

Louis C

It's not illegal in all jurisdictions yet. |

Because cops do it too.
And because everyone does it. |
