Why do they make cars past 100 Km/hour?

Horse power manifests itself two ways: Top speed and torque. The engine doesn't know or care how its horsepower is used.

Torque is pretty critical when it comes to accelleration and towing power. If you have ever had to merge onto a high speed freeway from a nearly dead start ramp, then you know how important it is to get up to a matching speed in a hurry. That low horsepowered clunker can feel pretty vulnerable when it is being chased by semi barreling down in the rear view mirror. And, have you ever been stuck on a mountain two lane road behind an underpowered car or truck towing an oversize load?

So, automobiles are advertized with horsepower as one of the features. They point out their zero to sixty times and towing capacity. What they don't advertize much is their top speed. (imagine the lawsuits) Besides, this kind of info is available from other sources for those that really want to know.

But, people, have their OWN reasons for purchasing a car. For some, how high the spedometer reads is meaningful. But, most reasonable people know that very few, if any cars can actually get to the highest speed shown on the speedometer. But still, some folks buy these speed demon cars for bragging rights.

Because I wrote them a letter stating my desire to occasionally explore the upper limits af an automobile's performance envelope. And I couldn't possibly do that at a measly 100 Kph. now, could I?
Since I obviously bring to bear a lot of influence on the automobile manufacturing community they complied with my request. I receive countless letters every day complimenting and thanking me for my efforts on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of like minded drivers all over the world.
Until now I have been too humble to take credit for this turn of events but since you insisted on asking, I felt it was my duty to come forward and clarify the issue.

SO the government can collect on speeding tickets and make more money to pay officials to do wasteful spending. Part of the economic problem. Its like a snowball going downhill. It dont stop.

My brother takes his car to the racetrack where he can legally go faster than 100kpm.

In some countrys, they don't have speed limits, and sometimes there are emergencies that people have to react to, that's just a little guess

There are many countries where you are allowed to go faster. Some still have no limits on highways.

Good question. I have wondered this myself and haven't figured it out yet either. My girls stepfather had a Honda CRV Sport utility that had 140mph on the Speedometer. Who in their right mind would travel so fast. Granted this Honda most likely could reach that speed so put it there in the first place? I don't really know why speedometers have 100km or higher.
